On World No To***co Day (31 May 2026), the South African NCDs Alliance (SANCDA+) joins the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Department of Health (South Africa), civil society partners, and communities across South Africa in raising awareness under the theme: "Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction."

Behind colourful packaging, appealing flavours, social media marketing, and products such as e-cigarettes and ni****ne pouches lies a serious public health concern: addiction.

The to***co and ni****ne industry continues to target a new generation of users, particularly children and young people, by presenting harmful products as trendy lifestyle choices. These tactics threaten decades of progress in to***co control and disease prevention.

Founded by CANSA, Diabetes South Africa, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa, SANCDA+ remains committed to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases and supporting stronger measures to protect public health.

To***co use and ni****ne addiction remain major contributors to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, and premature death.

The best way to beat addiction is to prevent it before it starts. Protecting young people from ni****ne addiction is one of the most important investments we can make in South Africa's future.

CANSA is proud to welcome Dermaclinical.net as our newest Cause Related Marketing Partner! ☀️

From 25 to 31 May 2026, Dermaclinical is encouraging South Africans to wear their SPF with purpose — because protecting your skin can also help support those affected by cancer.

During this campaign period, 10% of all Dermaclinical SPF sales will be donated to CANSA in support of our cancer research, education, awareness, care and support programmes.

By choosing sun protection, you’re not only taking an important step towards reducing your cancer risk — you’re also helping CANSA continue making a difference in communities across South Africa.

Protect your skin. Support a cause. Make every application count. 🌞

Today, 23 May, is World Melanoma Day. ☀️🎗️

Melanoma may be less common than other skin cancers, but it is the most dangerous. Early detection can make all the difference!

CANSA encourages everyone to stay throughout the year by protecting your skin, doing monthly skin checks using the ABCDE guidelines, and arranging annual skin examinations with a doctor or dermatologist.

CANSA also offers skin screening tests through most CANSA Care Centres, including:
- Clinical Mole Analysis - this is when a trained, professional nurse clinically assesses a mole according to globally accepted ABCDE screening guide.
- FotoFinder Mole Analysis - this is an enhanced clinical mole analysis to detect suspicious moles via a FotoFinder (electronic device) that measures the risk profile of the mole. (FotoFinder machines roam between Care Centres so booking is essential).
-
Know your skin. Spot the changes. Act early. 💛
