New release today! 🐾✨

This female small-spotted Genet was caught by a local farmer and brought to us for safety. She spent a few days in our clinic so we could treat a minor wound on her nose, caused while she was in the capture cage.

Once healed, we found the perfect release site for her—and today, she is officially back where she belongs! Run free, little one! 🌳💚

🦁Lion FACTS Today: 🦁

While everyone focuses on the lion's roar or their social hierarchy, one of the most fascinating and rarely discussed aspects of their biology is the unique "knuckle-walking" mechanism of their front limbs.

Unlike many other big cats that rely heavily on precise, high-speed paw manipulation, lions have evolved a specialized structure in their wrist and shoulder complex that allows them to absorb the immense kinetic energy of a take down. When a lion slams into prey, they essentially utilize their front limbs as shock absorbers. Their humerus is exceptionally robust and features a massive area for the attachment of the pectoralis muscles, which are disproportionately large compared to other felids.

This anatomy creates a specialized "anchor point" during a hunt: once they make contact with large prey like a buffalo or wildebeest, they don't just hold on; they use their front limbs to lock their own center of gravity directly against the prey. This allows them to use the momentum of the prey against itself, effectively turning the lion into a weighted anchor that forces the prey to ground, rather than relying solely on the strength of their jaw. It is this specific bio-mechanical integration of the "shoulder-locking" maneuver that allows them to take down animals many times their size—a feat that requires more physical stabilization than raw bite force alone.
