A MASSIVE, HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO OUR ANONYMOUS BENEFACTOR! 🎉🙌

Good day to all you wonderful people in our community of Universitas!

We are absolutely thrilled and deeply moved to share incredible news with everyone today. A local philanthropist has generously blessed the Universitas Neighbourhood Associations (UWNA & UPNA) with a sponsored, fully paid 8-month contract with Anchors of Hope!

Starting today, 21 August 2026, dedicated crews are officially on the ground cleaning, cutting, and maintaining the main entryway into our neighbourhood along Walter Sisulu Road—stretching all the way from the N1 off-ramp right past FS Cars towards town.

What an enormous relief and magnificent gift for Universitas!

To Our Anonymous Sponsor:
Words cannot fully express how grateful we are for your selfless generosity. By stepping up to cover this crucial 8-month stretch, you haven't just funded grass cutting and street cleanup—you’ve invested in the pride, safety, and beauty of our entire neighbourhood. Every resident and visitor driving into town along Walter Sisulu Road will benefit from your kindness every single day.

To Anchors of Hope:
Thank you for hitting the ground running today! We are so excited to see the transformation over the next eight months.

Let's all give a warm virtual round of applause to our mystery benefactor. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! 💚 Roadside care in full swing!

Centlec guards find stolen meter boxes hidden in refuse truck in Bloemfontein
=====================
Four suspects are set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft and tampering with essential infrastructure after Centlec electrical equipment worth R110,000 was found in a refuse truck.

They were arrested on Tuesday (18/8) after electrical infrastructure was recovered at Centlec’s premises in Oranjesig, Bloemfontein. Security guards had received an anonymous tip-off that suspected stolen copper cables and meter boxes were hidden in sports bags allegedly belonging to refuse collectors near the power utility’s premises.

Centlec acting spokesperson Tseliso Leba said security personnel stopped a municipal waste collection truck leaving through the green gate at about 12:00. The occupants agreed to a security-procedure search, during which 48 meter boxes with keypads were allegedly found hidden in four sports bags.

Additional electrical infrastructure, including copper cables, electrical fuses and Airdac cables, was allegedly found in black refuse bags inside the truck. Four suspects were detained and handed over to police for further investigation. They are facing charges of theft and tampering with essential infrastructure. The investigation is ongoing.

COMMUNITY UPDATE: Keeping Universitas West Clean & Safe!
==============================
Earlier today in Bell Crescent, the Project Manager of our newly elected Universitas West Neighbourhood Association (UWNA) team intervened after catching two individuals tearing open black refuse bags brought from another area and scattering litter.

Following a firm warning and clear instructions, the individuals placed all scattered rubbish back into provided bags and left the area in squeaky-clean condition.

Important Refuse Reminders for Residents [ When Collections Should Take Place]
1. Waste Schedule & Bags

Please put out household waste only on designated collection days specified by Daphne and your street group leaders.

Always use sealed black plastic bags to prevent scattering.

2. Placement Guidelines (Avoid Street Medians!)

If your property sits adjacent to a road median, place your refuse bags on the pavement directly in front of your house—NOT on the median.

Why avoid the median?

Safety First: The Mangaung Metro (MMM) collection truck collects refuse strictly from the left-hand side of the vehicle.

Dangerous Crossings: Picking up bags left on a center median forces collection workers to cross incoming traffic, creating a severe safety hazard. As a result, bags on medians are often left behind.

Litter Prevention: Uncollected bags left on medians attract street vendors and vagrants, leading to torn bags and widespread littering in our neighbourhood.

Let’s work together to keep our streets tidy and our collection teams safe!

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support! 💚

Partnering for Better Service Delivery: Help Us Help You in Universitas!
===================================
As residents, we all want well-maintained streets, reliable water systems, and efficient municipal services. While local ward committees and neighbourhood associations work hard behind the scenes to advocate for Universitas, **we cannot fix what we don't know about—and we need your help to get the job done.**

To effectively escalate and resolve service delivery problems in our community, we are streamlining how issues are reported to municipal representatives and local ward leadership.

Here is how you can help us take action on your behalf.

How We Escalate Your Issues

When you send us a complete report, we immediately take the following steps:

1. **Contact the Municipality:** We follow up with municipal services to log your complaint and secure an official **Reference (REF) Number**.
2. **Log the Issue Centrally:** We record the problem on [ citymendersa-new.web.app ] ( https://citymendersa-new.web.app/) for **Ward 23 and Ward 26**.
3. **Notify Key Stakeholders:** Logging the issue automatically alerts your Ward Councillor, Ward Committees, and the **UPNA & UWNA Neighbourhood Associations**, ensuring full transparency and trackable accountability.

---
What We Need From You
To log an issue successfully, the municipality requires specific details. Without complete information, complaints are often delayed or rejected.

Whenever you encounter a service delivery problem—whether it's a faulty water meter, a pothole, or an electrical fault—please ensure you collect and send us all required details.

# # # Required Information Checklist:

* **Full Name & Surname**
* **Cell Phone Number**
* **Physical Address**
* **Meter Number** *(if reporting a water or electricity meter issue)*
* **Clear Photo of the Issue**

> 📩 **Where to send it:** Please email all your details and photos directly to **` [email protected] **.

---
Simple Steps to Report an Issue

1. **Snap a photo** of the problem (e.g., the leaking meter, burst pipe, or road defect).
2. **Gather your details** using the checklist above.
3. **Send an email** to `[email protected]`.
4. **Receive your REF number** once we log the issue with the municipality and upload it to the tracking portal.

By working together and providing complete information from the start, we can ensure our community's voices are heard and our issues are addressed as quickly as possible.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Universitas moving forward!

A Heartfelt Thank You to Tonie: Going Above and Beyond for Our Community Park!

In a world where it’s easy to wait for someone else to step up, local resident Tonie chose to lead by example.
Yesterday afternoon, Tonie took matters into his own hands—and out of his own pocket—by spending his time mowing and maintaining Jim Fouche Park. Riding his lawnmower around the park’s rock gardens and green spaces, he transformed the area into a beautifully neat, clean, and welcoming environment for all neighboring families and visitors to enjoy.
> "A huge thank you, Tonie, for mowing Jim Fouche Park yesterday afternoon. The park is looking wonderfully neat and tidy again!"
>
Why Community Spirit Matters
Acts of kindness like this do far more than just keep the grass short:
* Creates Safe Spaces: A well-kept park ensures children and families have a clean, clear area to play and relax.
* Builds Pride: Seeing someone care for a shared public space inspires everyone in the neighborhood to take pride in their surroundings.
* Demonstrates True Initiative: Investing personal time, effort, and resources into public spaces embodies the true spirit of community.
Let’s Give Tonie the Credit He Deserves!
It’s selfless actions like Tonie’s that turn a neighborhood into a tight-knit community. Next time you see Tonie around the park or neighborhood, be sure to give him a warm wave or say a quick "thank you!"
Thank you once again, Tonie, for your generosity, hard work, and dedication to keeping our community beautiful! 👍🏻🙏🙏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
