We congratulate Prof Flavia Senkubuge, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, on her induction as a Fellow and election as Vice President of the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Public Health Physicians.

Her appointment is a testament to her leadership and dedication to strengthening public health across Africa. We are proud to celebrate this significant achievement and her ongoing contribution to the field.

We do not abandon our principles when circumstances become difficult, nor do we retreat when institutions begin to falter. The political ideals and historical mandate of the African National Congress remain rooted in the pursuit of a democratic, just and equitable society, principles for which comrades such as Cde Chris Hani, Chief Albert Luthuli, Walter Sisulu, Solomon Mahlangu, Steve Biko and countless others dedicated their lives.

Our commitment therefore extends beyond individuals and political personalities. It is a commitment to a historical cause: the protection of the dignity, constitutional rights, socio-economic interests and democratic aspirations of our people, and the advancement of the interests of future generations on the land of our forefathers.

Makuyiwe maqabane: the 4th of November must be understood as an opportunity for democratic renewal and political accountability. It is a moment for the people to exercise their constitutional power and reject corruption, maladministration, abuse of public office and the erosion of institutional integrity.

Public office is a fiduciary responsibility, not a personal entitlement. Those entrusted with political power are legally and morally accountable to the people they serve. Leadership must therefore be measured by integrity, competence, service delivery, constitutional fidelity and an unwavering commitment to the public interest.

On the 4th of November, let the people speak through the democratic process. Let accountability prevail over patronage, principle over opportunism, and public interest over political self-preservation.

We remain resolute. We remain committed. We remain on the side of the people.

Sizakuhlala sikhalela ukungahoywa kodwa sithule xa kufuneka sithethe. The municipal budget process begins here—these IDP engagements are not ceremonial; they exist to identify the real needs of communities so that public funds are allocated where they are actually required. The people who live the daily realities are supposed to shape those priorities.

Xa iWard 6 ingafakwanga kwezi engagements, it is not a small oversight—it is a direct exclusion. It means as the new financial year begins, our ward is effectively written out of development plans. Resources will be directed to areas that were consulted, while we are expected to accept neglect as if it were normal.

This is not incompetence. It is disregard. It is a pattern that undermines us and assumes we will remain passive.

That assumption is wrong.

We need to make it clear—firmly and unapologetically—that Ward 6 will not be sidelined. We have the voice, the numbers, and the resolve to challenge this. What they continue to treat as impossible can, and will, be changed.
