Africa Day Message from Lekgutsa Mbele Foundation

Today we honor the spirit of Africa—resilient, creative, and unbreakable.

Africa Day reminds us that our strength lies in our unity and in the stories we carry across generations. At Lekgutsa Mbele Foundation, we believe that culture and youth are the heartbeat of our communities. It is through art, language, and shared heritage that we heal, connect, and build the future we want to see.

To every young creative, elder, and cultural practitioner in the Free State and beyond: your voice matters. Keep telling your story. Keep creating spaces where African identity is celebrated unapologetically.

Happy Africa Day. May we continue to rise together, rooted in who we are and driven by where we are going.

Happy Mother’s Day

From the Lekgutsa Mbele Foundation

Today we honour the mothers, grandmothers, and mother-figures whose love, strength, and sacrifice form the foundation of our homes and our nation.

At the Lekgutsa Mbele Foundation, we see daily how your guidance shapes young minds, preserves culture, and builds resilient communities. You are the first educators, the keepers of tradition, and the quiet force behind every leader, artist, and changemaker we support.

Thank you for nurturing hope, instilling values, and showing us what service and perseverance look like. Your influence reaches far beyond your families—it touches the future of South Africa.

Re a leboga. Re a le rata. Happy Mother’s Day.

May you feel celebrated, rested, and deeply appreciated today and always.

HAPPY WORKERS’ DAY TO MZANSI ✊🏾🇿🇦

Today we raise our fists for every hand that builds this country.

We celebrate you:

The nurse working a double shift.
The EPWP worker cleaning our streets.
The farmer feeding the nation.
The artist performing for dignity, not just applause.
The unemployed youth hustling daily without a payslip, but never without pride.

Your work matters. Your sweat matters. Your struggle matters.

TODAY WE REMEMBER

1 May 2003 – Saulspoort Dam Tragedy
23 years ago, 51 workers lost their lives on their way to a Workers’ Day rally in QwaQwa. 41 were from Sol Plaatje Municipality.

They died demanding what we still demand today: Decent Work. Safe Work. Dignified Work.
We speak their names so their fight was not in vain.

THE LEKGUTSA MBELE FOUNDATION BELIEVES:

1. Art Is Work.Creatives are workers. Pay them. Protect them. Respect them.
2. Youth Is Power. No economy grows without jobs for young people. No democracy survives with unemployed youth.
3. Dignity Is Non-Negotiable. No worker should choose between safety and a salary. No artist should choose between passion and poverty.

OUR MAY COMMITMENT

As a foundation, we recommit to:
1. Advocating for creative sector jobs in every municipality
2. Training young people for the cultural economy
3. Holding leaders accountable for EPWP, CWP, and youth programs
4. Building platforms where Free State talent is paid, not just praised

TO EVERY WORKER

"May your hard work always bring you the sweet fruits you deserve and take you ahead in life. We see you. We honor you. We fight with you."

Rest in peace to the Saulspoort 51.
Strength to every worker still clocking in today.

Happy Workers’ Day, Mzansi.

The struggle for decent work continues.

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATION AT NTSU SECONDARY SCHOOL :

Empowering Learners through "My Right, My Responsibility"

It was a great honor for Mr Lekgutsa Mbele to be the guest speaker at Ntsu Secondary School in Bethlehem on the 24 March 2026, where we explored the theme "My right, my responsibility": building safe and inclusive schools. The purpose of my visit was to celebrate Human Rights Day and share the significance of this important occasion with the learners.

As Lekgutsa Mbele Foundation we aim to educate the students on the meaning of human rights and their role in promoting these rights to create a better South Africa. It was wonderful as He shared the platform with the future generations so RCL President and her entourage from Ntsu Secondary School. The engagement was insightful, and We confident that the learners will take away valuable lessons on embracing their rights and responsibilities.

The theme resonated strongly with the audience, highlighting the importance of individual responsibility in upholding human rights and fostering inclusive communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this meaningful event.
