‼️SUCCESSFUL OPERATION LEADS TO THE ARREST OF 62 SUSPECTS, WITH EXPLOSIVES, LIQUOR AND ILLEGAL MINING EQUIPMENT SEIZED - IN CLOVERDENE‼️

On Wednesday 06 May 2026 at 08:00, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers, in conjunction with the South African Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Department of Home Affairs, Water and Sanitation, Ekurhuleni Energy Department, Human Settlements Department, Environmental Health, Department of Social Development, Disaster and Emergency Services, as well as private security services, arrested sixty-two (62) suspects aged between eighteen (18) and thirty-nine (39), demolished illegally erected structures and confiscated illegal mining equipment in the Cloverdene area, Putfontein.

During a multidisciplinary crime prevention operation conducted in the area, the strong presence of law enforcement led to the arrest of sixty-two (62) undocumented illegal miners.

Officials from the Energy Department disconnected several illegal electricity connections, while the Land Invasion Unit, together with the Human Settlements Department, demolished forty-six (46) illegally erected structures. The structures, which appeared to be ordinary dwellings, were allegedly being used to conceal illegal mining activities and storage facilities.

Law enforcement officers also confiscated various illegal mining equipment, including phendukas, wheelbarrows, generator motors, gas cylinders, and other related items.

In addition, explosives were recovered inside one of the shacks, prompting the activation of the SAPS Bomb Squad for safe handling and removal. Liquor with an estimated street value of five thousand Rand (R5 000) was also confiscated during the operation.

All arrested suspects were detained at Benoni Police Station and are expected to appear soon before the relevant Magistrate’s Court.

‼️Illegal Dumping‼️
CPF S3 was observed cleaning refuse that had been dumped on the intersection of Trig and High Road this afternoon. The degradation of the environment and image of Benoni - caused by the dumping refuse/litter in public spaces continues relentlessly with no end in sight. Despite being an eye sore there are potential health hazards attached to these incidents and The Manger who kindly mows these verges for Brentwood Park cannot ‘plough through refuse for obvious reasons. We need the help of the Benoni Community to stem the tide. If you see something say something so that these perpetrators can meet the full might of the law.

In a time when many people wait for someone else to act, Manny’s Hardware Store in Benoni has stepped forward and “adopted a robot” Committing to get the traffic light at the intersection of High & Great North Road operational again.

With a dysfunctional metropolis who provide no services, this is a powerful example of private citizens stepping up to keep our community safe and functioning. Traffic lights are not just an inconvenience when they fail - they become a serious safety risk for motorists and pedestrians alike. This generous gesture will help restore order at a busy intersection and benefit everyone who passes through it.

Our ❗️CPF Meeting❗️takes place tomorrow evening and we sincerely hope to see a stronger community presence. It is easy to ask what the CPF, SAPS, or patrollers are doing about crime - but community safety works best when the community itself shows up and gets involved. These meetings are your opportunity to be informed, ask questions, and contribute to the safety of our area.
If we want change, we must be willing to be present.

🚨 **BENONI CPF – S4 🚨
SUCCESS REPORT**

On Tuesday morning, 25 February 2026 at approximately 04h00, members of Sector 4 responded to reports of suspicious activity in the area. Individuals were caught red-handed burning copper cables.

✅ One suspect was successfully detained.
✅ Two suspects fled the scene into the dense bush.
✅ Copper cables were recovered.
✅ SAPS was contacted.
✅ The detained suspect was arrested and his vehicle used to transport the cables was impounded by SAPS.

We thank our CPF members for their swift response to detain the suspect and SAPS for their prompt action to arrest the suspect.
