SAEEC is a non profit industry body promoting energy and sustainability across Southern Africa The SAEE Confederation has members from nine countries.

SAEE Confederation is your source for information on the dynamic field of energy efficiency, utility deregulation, facility management, plant engineering, and environmental compliance. With a full array of information outreach programmes, from technical seminars, conferences and books to critical buyer-seller, networking tradeshows, job listings and certification programmes, the SAEE Confederation and AEE offers a variety of information resource tools. As a growing membership organisation, the overall strength of the AEE is highlighted by a strong membership base of over 15 000 professionals and recognised certification programmes. The Association's network of 82 chapters regularly meets to discuss international and regional issues. The SAEE Confederation promotes and looks after the energy industry associated with Demand-Side Management (DSM) and Energy Efficiency. The SAEE Confederation aims to become the Association in Southern Africa that brings all energy stakeholders in the region together. The SAEE Confederation have already come a long way towards achieving its goals of consolidating energy efficiency stakeholders in the Southern African region. These countries are Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa.

Electrifying European Industry Through Smarter Energy Management

Meet Dr Hicham Lahmidi, Chief Technical Officer at HandZ Solutions, Paris, and Secretary of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

With extensive experience in engineering, energy management and sustainability, Dr Lahmidi specialises in energy efficiency, commissioning, measurement and verification (M&V), and renewable energy solutions. His career spans technical leadership, research and the development of innovative approaches to building performance and decarbonisation.

At the AEE Africa Conference 2026, Dr Lahmidi will present “Electrification of European Industry”, exploring how electric boilers (e-boilers) and Electrical Thermal Energy Storage (ETES) can help industries reduce reliance on fossil fuels and decarbonise industrial heat.

His presentation will examine how renewable electricity, thermal energy storage and intelligent energy management can improve energy flexibility, optimise renewable energy use, reduce peak electricity demand and support cost-effective industrial decarbonisation.

Advancing Offshore Wind Energy Through High-Fidelity Modelling

Meet Maureen Ramaube, a Ph.D. candidate in Atmospheric Sciences at Howard University and a Graduate Researcher in (Applied Fluids & Thermal Engineering Laboratory).

Maureen’s research focuses on offshore wind energy, with particular expertise in mesoscale–microscale coupling and high-fidelity large-eddy simulations. Her work explores the atmospheric processes that influence offshore wind resources and their performance.

Through advanced wind energy modelling, Maureen contributes to improving the understanding of atmospheric conditions and their role in offshore wind resource assessment, supporting the development of more reliable and effective wind energy solutions.

Accelerating Africa’s Energy Transition Through Energy Storage & Decarbonisation

Meet Joanne Dean, Chief Executive Director of Enerj Holdings, bringing over 20 years of experience advancing decarbonisation and clean energy initiatives across Africa.

Joanne holds a BEng in Mechanical and Environmental Engineering and is a Carbon Verifier. Her expertise spans renewable energy, battery energy storage, environmental innovation and resource efficiency.

Through Enerj Holdings, she contributes to advancing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and strategic energy initiatives, including the South African Renewable Energy Master Plan (SAREM) and regional power-pooling connections spanning from Cape to Cairo. These initiatives aim to strengthen regional energy collaboration and support resilient, sustainable energy systems across the continent.

Joanne also serves as Chairperson of the SAESA Presidential Committee for SAREM and holds board leadership roles at the South African Energy Storage Association (SAESA) and AEE South Africa.

Her work champions renewable energy policy, improved access to energy storage and innovative solutions that integrate environmental sustainability, resource efficiency and social equity.

Her mission is to help accelerate Africa’s energy transition through transformative, sustainable and inclusive energy solutions.

Meet Joseph Njuguna, Energy Finance Specialist at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Kenya Focal Point for the Energy for Growth in Africa (E4G) Initiative.

Joseph specialises in developing and structuring clean energy investment opportunities, fostering collaboration between public institutions, private developers, financiers and development partners to advance sustainable energy solutions.

His expertise spans energy finance, energy management, standards and labelling, energy efficiency, and mini-grid development. Through his work, he has contributed to initiatives focused on expanding sustainable energy access, improving energy performance and mobilising investment in Kenya.

With experience across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Botswana and The Gambia, Joseph brings a regional perspective on Africa’s diverse energy markets and investment opportunities.

His work highlights the importance of strategic financing, cross-sector partnerships and investment mobilisation in accelerating clean energy development across the continent.

Driving Africa’s Energy Transition Through Digital Innovation & Bioenergy

Meet Raymond Namusoso, CEO of Wawtex Solutions and recipient of AEE’s 2026 Young Energy Professional of the Year for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Raymond is an energy systems practitioner, entrepreneur and applied researcher working at the intersection of energy efficiency, digital energy management and bioenergy across East Africa. Through Wawtex Solutions, he leads the delivery of practical energy and water solutions for industrial, commercial and institutional applications.

He also serves on the Board Working Committee of the Energy Efficiency Association of Uganda (EEAU), contributing to initiatives that promote energy efficiency, professional development and practical implementation across Uganda’s energy sector.

His technical expertise spans energy auditing, digital energy monitoring, solar PV, biomass energy and energy systems analysis. He leads the development of WawtPulse, a digital monitoring solution designed to provide real-time energy visibility, performance analytics and data-driven insights for industrial and commercial users.

Alongside his industry work, Raymond’s research explores the conversion of agro-processing residues into bioenergy, particularly residues from avocado oil processing. This work supports the development of circular energy systems for African agro-industries.

Through engineering, digital innovation and applied research, Raymond is helping translate ideas into practical, scalable solutions for improved energy performance and a more sustainable African energy future.

Driving Energy Efficiency & Strengthening South Africa’s Energy Security

Meet Mr Ntsikelelo Mkhithika, Project Coordinator for Energy Efficiency at the Department of Electricity and Energy, Republic of South Africa.

With approximately five years of experience, Ntsikelelo supports national Energy Efficiency and Demand-Side Management (EEDSM) initiatives, contributing to the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of energy efficiency programmes across various sectors.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Developmental Studies from North-West University and a Certificate Programme in Project Management from the University of Pretoria. He has also completed specialised International Energy Agency (IEA) training in energy efficiency policy development, strengthening his knowledge of international practices, measurement and evaluation.

His previous project management experience at the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Agricultural Research Council further informs his contribution to South Africa’s energy efficiency agenda.

Through his work, Ntsikelelo supports national priorities in energy security, economic development and environmental sustainability.

Exploring the Intersection of Law, Cybersecurity & Digital Innovation

Meet Adv. Nandipha Ntsaluba, an accomplished legal expert specialising in intellectual property, cybersecurity, data privacy and policy.

Adv. Ntsaluba lectures at the University of South Africa (UNISA), College of Law, where she teaches intellectual property, cyberlaw and corporate law. Her work also spans defence law, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and the development of emerging legal frameworks.

She has contributed to significant national policy and legislative initiatives, including the Cybersecurity and Cybercrimes Bill, and has served in professional and policy capacities involving organisations such as ICANN, ZAIGF and AIPLTIL.

With at least 12 academic qualifications across law, business and education, including four master’s degrees, Adv. Ntsaluba brings a multidisciplinary perspective to the evolving relationship between technology, governance and regulation.

She is also a recipient of the 2023 AfICTA Africa Community Development Award, recognising her contribution to community development. Her work continues to support important conversations around law, technology, energy, cybersecurity and policy.

Meet Mthunzi Mangqalaza, Project Coordinator: Energy Efficiency Projects at South Africa’s Department of Electricity and Energy.

With 10 years of experience coordinating, managing and monitoring municipal energy efficiency projects, Mthunzi has contributed to energy policy development, with a focus on advancing energy efficiency across various sectors of the economy.

In his current role, he supports the implementation and coordination of initiatives that promote improved energy performance, sustainable energy practices and greater energy efficiency within municipalities.

Mthunzi holds a Bachelor of Social Science, BCom Honours and a Postgraduate Diploma, and is currently pursuing an MBA.

Advancing Energy Efficiency, Smart Microgrids & Sustainable Energy Systems

Meet Professor S.P. Daniel Chowdhury, Director of S5 Enterprises and an accomplished Electrical Power and Energy Engineering professional with more than 30 years of experience across academia, research, industry and energy management.

Throughout his career, Prof. Chowdhury has held academic and research positions at leading institutions in India, the United Kingdom and South Africa, including the University of Manchester, the University of Cape Town and Tshwane University of Technology.

His contributions to engineering research and education include more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and the successful supervision of 15 doctoral, 55 master’s and 116 postgraduate students.

His current research interests include addressing energy poverty in Africa through green-energy-based smart microgrids. Through S5 Enterprises, he also supports organisations in energy efficiency, energy conservation and sustainability, including ISO 50001 Energy Management System training and Energy Performance Certificate audits.

A certified energy management professional and registered engineer, Prof. Chowdhury continues to advance practical, commercially viable energy solutions that support improved energy performance and a more sustainable future.
