🐝We are ever so grateful for the ongoing support we receive from our weekly paper, Benoni CityTimes. The only reason they were mentioned was to illustrate the power of one negative comment on a public platform 🐝

Today is supposed to be a day of celebration for our Society but most of all for our charity shop.
We are the runners up in Best of Ekurhuleni.

Instead, the day is off to a terrible start.

We depend on our charity shop to keep our doors open and our staff on the road.

Last year, instead of engaging with us a member of the public wrote to The Benoni City Times to air her feelings. Public reaction to this letter was swift. Donations dried up and sales fell by R50 000 that month and every month since.

We have tried every avenue we can think of but to date have not managed to get back to our previous monthly turnover.

One letter jeopardised the lives of the 7 000 animals we assist annually.

This morning two shoppers began to bicker. The bickering quickly escalated into a argument that nearly became violent.

Despite our attempt at mediation (which was blocked before getting started by temper), one shopper left promising to go to the media, to the police, to the DA ward councillor.

Surely, the lives of the animals we serve are more important than a secondhand top and a marginally dented ego?
