Established in 2012, this project is focused on the animals in Etwatwa township on the East Rand, where we provide the community with access to a broad range of veterinary services for their pets mainly dogs and cats. We also distribute 1000kg of dog and cat food monthly to feed over 150 animals from households that survive below the bread line. Our volunteers are residents of the community who ha

ve been trained in basic pet care and animal husbandry. We have equipped these community volunteers with practical know-how and means which they can use to help the animals of their immediate community. This includes an ongoing transfer of knowledge and education on the basics of pet care, and a proactive approach to dealing with fundamental aspects such as sterilization, vaccination and deworming of the animals. We also educate the community on how to deal with animals involved in emergency situations such as injuries and poisonings. Through our volunteers we also aim to provide animals with acceptable standards in living conditions given the community's poverty stricken circumstances. Furthermore, our volunteers are ambassadors for animal welfare and aim to engender a profound love of animals across the spectrum of the community and focusing especially on the children.

🔥UPDATE on BOBBY🔥
The SPCA did a follow up check and found that Bobby had been chained again and all education had been ignored AND the owner was unwilling to surrender him. So the SPCA obtained a warrant and confiscated BOBBY 🙏🙏🙏

BOBBY is now at SPCA Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa and will be going up for adoption in a week’s time 🙏🙏🙏
He’s a beautiful boy, very docile and has a shy nature. He will make THE MOST AMAZING companion, and hopefully he’ll find an incredible home soon! Poor soul is so confused 🙏🙏🐶

💙 A heartfelt THANK YOU to Benoni SPCA, Thomas and the entire team 💙

When we found Bobby, our hearts broke. He was matted, covered in oil, living on a short chain in utterly deplorable conditions — a life no dog should ever know.

After we sterilised Bobby, we reached out to the Benoni SPCA and asked them to help us help him… and they stepped in without hesitation.

Your compassion, professionalism and willingness to act made an immediate and life-changing difference for Bobby. This was a truly much-needed intervention, and we are deeply grateful for the care, support and kindness shown to him when he needed it most.

Thank you, Thomas and team, for being a voice for the voiceless and for standing with us in giving Bobby a chance at dignity, healing and a better future. 🐾✨

It takes collaboration, heart and commitment to change lives — and Bobby’s story is proof of that. 💙

Fourteen years.
Thousands of paws touched.
Countless lives changed.

As we celebrate 14 years of outreach work in Etwatwa, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude. None of this would have been possible without you — our supporters, sponsors, donors, volunteers and vets who have walked this journey with ALPS from the very beginning, and those who joined along the way.

Through the hardest days and the most hopeful moments, you stood beside us. You believed in a vision where animals living in an under privileged and impoverished community deserve compassion, care, dignity and love. Because of your generosity, dogs and cats (or the odd goose, rabbit, chicken) who once had nothing have known kindness, relief from suffering, and a chance at a better life.

Your support has meant food in empty bowls, medical care where there was none, education in the community, and hope where it was scarce. Every rescued life, every healed wound, every gentle moment between a child, adult or pensioner and an animal carries your fingerprint.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for believing in ALPS, for trusting us, and for helping us continue this vital work for the animals of Etwatwa.

Here’s to 14 years of impact… and to many more ahead, together 🖤💗🐾

🎄🐾 Grateful Hearts, Wagging Tails 🐾🎄

A huge THANK YOU to Santa Cause for Paws and every single ALPS supporter who donated to help bring much-needed Christmas cheer to the animals of Etwatwa township ❤️ during December.

Because of your kindness, dogs and cats - who so often go unseen - felt love, care and compassion this festive season. Full bellies and a reminder that they matter — this is what your generosity made possible.

For animals who face hardship daily, these moments of care mean everything. You didn’t just give food or supplies — you gave hope.

From all of us at ALPS, and from every grateful paw and whisker… thank you for standing with us and for being their Christmas miracle ✨🐶🐱
