The Value of Trauma Support Collaboration

Trained trauma support volunteers and trauma counsellors, working hand in hand with healthcare professionals such as psychologists and social workers, play a vital role in strengthening our nation’s response to trauma. Their presence ensures that individuals receive timely care, while upward referrals to mental health professionals safeguard access to specialized treatment. At the same time, downward supervision and ongoing training provide accountability, equipping volunteers and counsellors to remain within their scope of practice and to grow in competence.

This collaborative framework is best understood through the five-level model of trauma support services:
1. Education & Awareness – building resilience and reducing stigma.
2. Trauma Support – offering immediate, compassionate care.
3. Trauma Counselling – structured interventions for those in need.
4. Therapy – professional treatment for complex cases.
5. Research – ensuring continuous learning and evidence-based practice.

Together, these levels create a continuum of care where every role is valued, every referral strengthens the system, and every act of support contributes to healing and hope for our country.

What are you doing for others?

I love this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — If you want to improve your world, then focus your attention on helping others!

Remembering and telling the truth about terrible events are prerequisites both for the restoration of the social order and for the healing of individual victims.

🌐 Volunteer Appeal: Help Us Build a Virtual Backbone for Healing

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Trauma Support SA is growing—and so is our need for a robust, secure, and collaborative digital infrastructure. As we continue to serve frontline workers, chaplains, and communities affected by trauma, we’re calling on a skilled IT volunteer to help us set up and roll out our Microsoft 365 system.

This is more than just tech support—it’s about building a virtual sanctuary where compassion meets efficiency.

🛠️ What We Need Help With:
- Microsoft 365 Setup & Rollout
- Configure core apps (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.) for seamless communication
- Establish user roles and permissions for staff, volunteers, and guest users
- SharePoint Development
- Create a centralized hub for documents, training materials, and resources
- Enable secure collaboration across teams and regions
- User Management
- Add and manage volunteer guest users and internal team members
- Set up access controls to protect sensitive information
- Back-End Infrastructure
- Ensure network security and data protection
- Optimize settings for remote access and mobile use
- Integrate with existing tools like WhatsApp and Intune (if applicable)

💡 Why It Matters:
With your help, we’ll be able to:
- Streamline communication across our trauma support network
- Empower volunteers with easy access to resources and updates
- Enhance data security and compliance
- Save time and energy—so we can focus more on healing and hope

🙌 Who We’re Looking For:
- Someone with experience in Microsoft 365 administration
- Familiarity with SharePoint, Teams, and user management
- A heart for service and a passion for community impact

Whether you're a seasoned IT professional or a tech-savvy student looking to make a difference, your skills could be the key to unlocking a new chapter of virtual excellence for Trauma Support SA.

“If you're interested, please send us a short CV or summary of your experience so we can align your strengths with our rollout needs. We’d love to learn more about your background and how you’d like to contribute!” Reach out to us at [email protected] or message us directly.

Let’s build something meaningful—together.

With gratitude,
Philip & the Trauma Support SA Team
