A Message from the President of the IIER

Dear Esteemed Members,

When I first reached out at the beginning of my term, I spoke of vision and possibility. Today, I am pleased to share that those ideas are beginning to take shape, thanks to the commitment and energy of our committee members.

Progress to Date

• Golf Day Success: Our recent Golf Day was not only well attended but also a resounding success—strengthening relationships within the industry while raising the profile of the Institute. Events like these remind us that professional networks are built as much on shared experiences as on shared expertise.

• Youth & Mentorship: The mentorship programme continues to gain traction, with experienced professionals stepping forward to guide and support younger entrants into the industry. This remains one of the cornerstones of our long-term vision.

• Digital Presence: Development of the IIER website is underway. Once launched, it will serve as a central hub for communication, event information, and resources—making member engagement easier and more dynamic.

Looking Ahead
The coming months will be equally important. Our focus will be on:

• Expanding the mentorship initiative into a structured annual cycle.

• Bringing the website project to completion, with the aim of strengthening access and visibility for our members.

• Continuing to host events that create opportunities for both professional development and meaningful connection.

An Invitation
The strength of our Institute lies in participation. Whether it’s attending an event, mentoring a newcomer, or sharing your thoughts on how we can improve, your involvement matters. Every contribution helps us remain relevant and forward-looking.

A Message from the President of the IIER

Dear Esteemed Members of the Insurance Institute of the East Rand,

It is with immense gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility that I write to you today, marking the beginning of my term as President of the Insurance Institute of the East Rand (IIER). This opportunity is one I do not take lightly, and I am both humbled and energized to take on the role of guiding our Institute forward—alongside you.
The IIER has long stood as a pillar of professional growth, industry collaboration, and ethical excellence. It is a space where knowledge is shared, relationships are built, and our collective passion for insurance finds purpose and direction. As I step into this role, I do so on the shoulders of those who have laid the foundation before me, and with a deep commitment to enhancing and evolving the work they began.

A Passion Both Professional and Personal

Many of you know me from various roles within the industry over the years, but I would like to take a moment to share something deeper—something personal. At the core of my professional journey has always been a passion for people.
I was drawn to insurance not just for its technical rigor or its intellectual demands, but for its profound social relevance. Insurance touches lives. It offers security when the unexpected strikes. It provides a bridge between devastation and recovery. And above all, it reflects a shared trust between individuals, businesses, and professionals who stand ready to help in times of need.
That sense of being there for people—of stepping in when things go wrong and helping to make them right—is what has inspired me from day one. Whether mentoring new entrants into the field, helping a client navigate a difficult claim, or contributing to industry dialogue on ethics and transformation, I have always found meaning in work that uplifts others.
It is this very spirit—of service, of empathy, of integrity—that I hope to carry through my presidency at IIER.

Our Vision Forward

The landscape of insurance is changing rapidly. We are living through a time of regulatory evolution, digital disruption, shifting risk profiles, and heightened consumer expectations. But amidst all this change, I believe we have never had a greater opportunity to lead, to connect, and to grow.
During my term, I will be focusing on several key areas:

• Professional Development: Enhancing the value and accessibility of CPD-accredited events, courses, and workshops—both in-person and online.
• Youth & Mentorship: Creating pathways for emerging professionals to find their footing in the industry through structured mentorship, networking, and skills-building opportunities.
• Transformation & Inclusion: Driving meaningful change by fostering a culture of equity and diversity across all levels of our industry.
• Digital Modernization: Embracing new tools and platforms to make our communications, services, and member engagement more seamless and impactful.
• Community Engagement: Reinforcing our relevance not just in business, but in society—by participating in outreach, charity, and awareness initiatives that reflect our values.

Let’s Build Together

More than anything, I want my term as President to be defined by collaboration. The IIER does not belong to one person or one committee—it belongs to all of us. Every member plays a part in shaping our identity and our future. Whether you are a long-time practitioner or a newcomer to the field, your voice matters, and your input is welcome.
I invite you to get involved: attend our events, join our working groups, share your ideas, and engage with our leadership. If you see something we can improve, let’s talk about it. If you have a vision for something new, let’s explore it together. My door is always open, and my commitment to you is that I will lead with transparency, approachability, and a genuine passion for our industry.
