A Cry from the Soil of Limpopo: Archbishop Matebane Condemns the Unnatural Rise in Father-Son Violence
LIMPOPO PROVINCE, SOUTH AFRICA — Archbishop MJ Matebane, Presiding Bishop of Bethel Worship House and founding member of Leadership Institute of Bishops and Apostles, today issued a powerful and urgent statement condemning the recent, tragic surge in violence and murder between fathers and sons across the Limpopo Province.
“The very foundation of our society—the family—is under a vicious and unnatural attack,” stated Archbishop Matebane. “We are witnessing a horrifying trend where the sacred bond between a father and his son is being severed not by natural causes, but by the very hands meant to protect and honor it. The blood of our fathers and sons is crying out from the soil of Limpopo, and we, as a community of faith, cannot remain silent.”
The Archbishop’s condemnation follows a series of deeply disturbing incidents reported in the province, including cases where sons have been convicted of murdering their fathers, and fathers have been arrested for the brutal killing of their own children. These acts, he noted, are a profound betrayal of the divine order and the cultural values that hold the community together.
“A father is called to be a pillar of strength, a teacher, and a provider of life. A son is called to be a successor, a helper, and a source of honor. When these roles are tragically reversed into perpetrator and victim, it signals a deep spiritual and societal crisis that demands immediate, collective introspection and action.”
Archbishop Matebane, who has a background in Criminology, emphasized that this crisis is not merely a legal or policing matter, but a spiritual and moral emergency rooted in broken relationships, economic despair, and a lack of spiritual guidance.
A Call to Action for the Limpopo Community:
The Archbishop calls upon all residents, community leaders, and faith-based organizations in Limpopo to take the following steps:
1. Spiritual Renewal and Prayer: Dedicate time in all homes and places of worship to pray for the healing of family relationships and the restoration of peace.
2. Open Dialogue: Fathers and sons must commit to honest, open, and respectful communication. We must break the culture of silence and emotional distance that breeds resentment and violence.
3. Seek Intervention: Those struggling with anger, conflict, or despair are urged to seek immediate counseling, spiritual guidance, or professional help. Bethel Worship House and other community organizations stand ready to assist.
4. Reaffirm Values: Community leaders must actively teach and model the values of respect, honor, and the sanctity of life, reinforcing the God-given roles within the family unit.
“We must turn back to the sound doctrine that teaches us to honor our parents and to raise our children in love and discipline,” the Archbishop concluded. “Let us not allow the enemy to steal the future of our province by destroying the very core of our families. The time for change is now. Let us rise up, Limpopo, and restore the honor of the father-son bond.”
