WHAT IS THE MIGGIE CHALLENGE? The Miggie Challenge is a one of a kind freshwater angling competition that aims to promote Cystic Fibrosis awareness and organ donation. The Miggie Challenge is a fundraising event and each year the competition is held in honor of a CF patient. WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS? Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and p
rogressively limits the ability to breathe. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. There is currently no cure for Cystic Fibrosis. HOW DID IT COME ABOUT? The competition was started on the 1st May 2014 to celebrate the 21st birthday of Stefan "Miggie" King, a well loved angler that suffered from Cystic Fibrosis. Sadly Stefan passed away 3 months after the Miggie Challenge was started. Cape Town Angling Club, Founders of the Miggie Challenge, decided to make the Miggie Challenge an annual event to honor and celebrate the life and positive spirit of Miggie. WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Every year the Miggie Challenge has a new beneficiary. All candidates for the Miggie Challenge are individuals who are currently fighting CF. The money raised during the campaign is kept in a sealed box which is given to the candidate after the competition. The candidate can do with the money what they please. Past beneficiaries

WHY GET INVOLVED? Cystic Fibrosis is currently the largest known genetic disease affecting more than 70 000 individuals worldwide. CF patients have a short life expectancy with many prolonged stays in hospital making them put their life on hold. With the Miggie Challenge we aim to give a beneficiary the funds that could help them make at least one of their dreams come true. Help us to help them. WHAT HAVE WE DONE OVER THE YEARS? The Miggie Challenge is a one of a kind fishing event with back-to-front rules and its very own fancy dress theme. The only rule of the day is to HAVE FUN. Anglers are encouraged to break the rules, steal each others fish and fish however they please. Donated prizes are handed out at the end of the day for categories such as the smallest fish and the best dressed. There are plenty of delicious meals for sale on the day and the atmosphere is very festive. Many anglers and families attend the Miggie Challenge and the fun filled day is enjoyed by all. PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
CTAC strives to make the Miggie Challenge an annual event that will coincide with Miggies birthday - 29 April. May is Cystic fibrosis awareness month. We plan on doing our part to raise awareness. In the future we hope to have big sponsors on board that support our cause and go further in spreading CF and organ donation awareness
