A special, heartfelt thank you to Vanessa all the way from Germany for this beautiful memory of our beloved Faith.
It’s truly amazing to see just how many hearts Faith touched around the world. Although she is no longer with us, her spirit, her story, and the love she gave continue to live on in the hearts of so many people.
Faith was truly special, and knowing that she will never be forgotten means more than words can express. Thank you, Vanessa, for keeping her memory alive and sharing a piece of her beautiful legacy with us.

A little piece of the wild, right here in South Africa. 🐅🇿🇦

Our Siberian tiger Fushan may live far from the cold forests his species originates from, but he still carries all the strength, beauty and presence that make these incredible cats so remarkable.

Siberian tigers are naturally adapted to much colder climates, with thick fur and a dense undercoat that help them withstand freezing temperatures. Their powerful build, large paws and impressive strength are perfectly suited to life as one of the largest wild cats on Earth.

Fushan reminds us that every animal has its own story and that understanding a species also means learning about the environment it evolved to thrive in. 🤍🐾

Every part of a cheetah’s body is adapted for explosive acceleration. Their flexible spine allows them to stretch their bodies through each stride, while powerful leg muscles propel them forward with incredible force.

At full speed, a cheetah’s body becomes a perfect balance of strength, flexibility and precision. Each stride carries them closer to their target, with their long tail helping them maintain balance and make sharp turns.

It’s not just speed. It’s a remarkable piece of natural engineering. 🤍🐾

For a leopard, the trees are more than just a place to rest. 🐆🌳

Leopards are exceptional climbers, thanks to their powerful shoulders, strong limbs and sharp, retractable claws that help them grip tree trunks and branches.

But climbing isn’t just about reaching a higher spot. Leopards often carry their prey up into trees, helping them keep their meal away from scavengers and other predators, including lions and hyenas. Their strength allows them to haul surprisingly heavy prey off the ground and into the branches.

Whether they’re resting in the shade or protecting a hard-earned meal, leopards make the treetops look effortless. 🌿🐾

That soft rumbling sound? That’s a purr! Cheetahs are among the big cats that can purr and it’s one of the many ways they communicate.

While we often associate cheetahs with incredible speed, moments like these remind us that there’s so much more to them than their reputation as the fastest land animal. Sometimes, the sweetest moments are the quietest ones. 🌿🐾

Did you know cheetahs can be surprisingly vocal? 🐆🔊

For an animal that spends so much time quietly watching its surroundings, cheetahs actually have quite a varied vocal repertoire.

They can chirp, purr, growl, hiss and even make a distinctive sound known as a “stutter” - a rapid series of vocalisations that can be used during social interactions.

Cheetah cubs are particularly vocal, using chirps and other calls to communicate with their mother and siblings. Adults also use different sounds to communicate with one another, especially when interacting at close range.

And one of the most fascinating things about cheetah vocalisations? Their famous “chirp” can sound surprisingly bird-like. 🐦🐆

So while we often think of the cheetah as the silent speed specialist of the savanna, there can actually be quite a conversation going on when you listen closely.

Sometimes you just have to stop and listen. 🤍

A mouth made for one very specific menu. 🦊🦷

Bat-eared foxes have something rather unusual hidden behind that adorable face: they have more teeth than most other canids, with up to 50 teeth compared with around 42 in many other members of the dog family.

Those extra teeth are closely linked to their specialised diet. Bat-eared foxes feed primarily on insects, especially termites and their teeth are adapted for quickly crushing and chewing their tiny prey.

Their jaws can move rapidly while feeding, allowing them to process large numbers of insects efficiently. And they certainly need them - a single bat-eared fox can consume thousands of insects in one night. 🐾

So behind those enormous ears and sweet little face is a mouth perfectly designed for a very specialised way of life.

Sometimes, the smallest prey requires some surprisingly specialised adaptations. 🤍

Dark fur, hidden spots. 🐆🖤

Black leopards are not a different species or a separate type of leopard. Their dark appearance is caused by a genetic condition called melanism, which results in an increased amount of dark pigment in the fur.

But here’s the fascinating part: those iconic leopard rosettes are still there.

In good lighting, you can often see the pattern beneath the dark coat, especially when the light catches the fur at the right angle. So a black leopard hasn’t lost its spots - they’re simply much harder to see. 👀🐾

Melanism can be particularly useful in certain environments because a darker coat can provide additional camouflage, especially in dense forests and areas with low light.

Same leopard. Same rosettes. Just wearing a much darker coat. 🖤

Happy World Animal Day. 🌍🐾

Every animal deserves to be treated with compassion, respect and care. Whether they are wild, rescued, living in human care or simply sharing our homes, their wellbeing matters.

For us, every day is about giving the animals in our care the best life possible, learning more about them and sharing their stories with the world. But days like today are also a reminder of the bigger picture - protecting animals means understanding them, respecting their needs and working towards a future where they can thrive.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who chooses to care. To our team, volunteers, supporters, adopters and everyone who follows our animals and helps give them a voice - thank you. 🤍

Today, and every day, let’s remember that animals aren’t simply part of our world.

They are part of what makes our world worth protecting. 🐾

Even the fastest land animal needs a little downtime. 🐆💤

Cheetahs spend a surprising amount of their day resting. Unlike predators that rely on endurance, cheetahs are built for short, explosive bursts of speed, which makes conserving energy incredibly important.

After a high-speed chase, a cheetah needs time to recover before it can return to normal activity. Resting also helps conserve energy between hunts, especially because sprinting places enormous demands on the muscles and cardiovascular system.

But resting doesn’t necessarily mean switching off completely. Cheetahs remain aware of their surroundings, using their excellent eyesight and sensitive hearing to keep track of what is happening around them. 🐾

So when you see a cheetah stretched out and looking completely relaxed, remember: doing absolutely nothing can actually be an important part of surviving in the wild. 🤍

Sometimes, the best strategy is simply to save your energy for when it really matters. 🐆
