A MORNING OF PARTNERSHIP AND PURPOSE

What a meaningful morning at the Durban Seafarers Mission!

The Port Welfare Committee (PWC) and the Durban Seafarers Mission (DSM) hosted a special Collaboration Breakfast at our Mission in Bayhead, Durban Harbour. We were honoured to welcome our valued partners and friends from across the maritime industry who joined us for fellowship, conversation and collaboration.

It was a fruitful engagement where we shared the heart of the work being done at the Durban Seafarers Mission. The daily care, support, ministry and welcome we offer to seafarers visiting the Port of Durban. Together we explored important questions: How are we serving our seafarers today, and how can we serve them even better tomorrow?

Our vision for the future is exciting. We plan to upgrade the Mission to incorporate a beautiful "African theme" – to give every seafarer who serves the world, a true glimpse of Africa and a warm, authentic African welcome and experience while they are in Durban.

We are also delighted to share that we have completed our newly renovated Quiet Room. A much-needed space for reflection, prayer and quiet away from the noise of the port and the pressures of life at sea.

Our heartfelt thanks goes to our generous sponsors, (The ITF Seafarers Trust and The Sailors Society), who made this dream and vision a reality. Your support has helped us create a space our seafarers truly deserve.

At DSM, we continue to ask ourselves how we can do more. We want to ensure that when a seafarer steps into our Mission, they don't feel like they are walking into an office, but rather into a homely, welcoming space, their home away from home. A place to relax, to be themselves, to be cared for.

Thank you to every partner, chaplain, staff, volunteer and friend who attended and contributed to the discussions. Working together to serve seafarers – that is what it is all about.

Vision to Reality

🕊️ Blessing of our new Quiet Room at Durban Seafarers Mission

What a special and blessed morning we had...

We officially opened and blessed our beautiful new Quiet Room - a peaceful space where seafarers can come to *relax, reflect and be quiet*, away from the noise of port life.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the blessing, prayers, and fellowship afterwards. Your presence meant so much.

Durban Seafarers Mission and the Port Welfare Committee hosted a joined breakfast.

Great food, great conversation, and a shared commitment to caring for seafarers in the Port of Durban.

Special thanks of gratitude to NUMSA, Shipping Agents, Harbour Master Captain Brynn, Ethekweni Economic Development, Port Authorities, and Transnet who attended.

Thank you for joining us and supporting how we can do better caring for Seafarers who visit our Mission, who come and relax and take time-out of their busy schedule on-board.

As part of our ongoing care for seafarers' we are undergoing renovations to add a Quiet Room. This space will give seafarers' visiting the Port of Durban a place to pause, reflect, and find rest during their short time ashore. It is our way of saying, you are valued and you deserve peace.

Durban Seafarer's Mission Celebrate "Day of the Seafarer & Seafarers Sunday" with an Ecumenical Service filled with worship, music by the Hillcrest Lutheran band and fellowship.

With gratitude to Bishop Nkosinathi who delivered an inspirational sermon and Blessed the Port of Durban, Seafarers' and All who attended.

To ALL seafarers, You are seen, valued, and prayed for, our mission is Your mission and Your home away from home. It was a privilege to worship with seafarers from accross the seas.

A huge thank you to all the dignitaries, partners, staff and chaplains who care for seafarers.

Thank You to ALL Seafarers' for your courage, your sacrifice and your service, without you the world cannot exsist! You keep the world moving...

On behalf of the Durban Seafarers' Mission and our Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team we Celebrate - Day of the Seafarer and Seafarers' Sunday.

In South Africa we live by the spirit of "UBUNTU" the believe that "I am because we are"

Today, and everyday we extend that profound African warmth to the Global Fleet. We remind ourselves that our daily comforts are brought to us by the hands of seafaring crews who brave isolation and treacherous seas.

Prayer for Seafarers' Sunday

Heavenly Father,

Today as we celebrate Seafarers Sunday, we lift up all seafarers around the world.

We thank You Lord, for their courage, sacrifice, and service as they keep 90% of the world' trade connected across the oceans.

Watch over them in calm seas and storms, protect them from danger, and bring them safely to their families.

Grant them strength, peace, and hope in the midst of long voyages and time away from home.

Bless their homes, families who wait and pray for them, and bless all who serve and support seafarers in every port.

May Your presence be their anchor and Your peace be their compass.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
