Two rescues starting their new lives. Emma is becoming our therapy cat and Cody her latest patient. He came to us nervous and unsure, Emma came to us firing on all cylinders and ready to take on the world!

Finally back on the beach. After rainy weather, loads of holidaymakers and hot sand days - we finally made it down again when it was slightly overcast. Felt good to be back and the dogs loved it.

So this was our day yesterday. Off to the beach with the dogs and the next thing Higgins pops up highly indignant. He’d been sleeping in the car when we left and no one bothered to wake him up (shows what a good driver I am) 😜. It was a very vocal ride but he survived the trip and so did we (only just).

Meet Cody, our newest arrival. Cody was surrendered because of far from ideal living conditions and aggressive dogs. He’s been a little timid but Emma is working her magic and thankfully Cody has fallen for Ashton in a big way.

Bit of a photo dump. Emma the kitten who braved 13 guard dogs to get some help has made herself the centre of attention here. She continues to charm, play with any newcomers and just generally enjoy life here with us. She’s been spayed and is now our therapy cat.

Our newest arrival. Winston came from the Natal Midlands. Rejected by his mother and without that initial colostum he isn’t doing very well. High temp and not keen on latching onto the teat of a bottle, this little guy is proving to be a bit of a challenge. If he makes it through the night we might stand a chance but he is so small and so weak. We could do with some prayers 🙏🏼

Just another day. Starting with an awesome donation from Absolute Pets here in Ballito, to Park walks, garden games and total collapse after. I skipped the puddles and poops and chaotic mealtimes.

Feedtime here can get a little busy. This is just the front lawn. The back lawn fills up too.

This is so scary that officials have the power and yet no compassion.

This is Jacky, and this is what 16 years of stolen freedom looks like locked in a cage.
After rescuing her, we placed her in rehabilitation alongside a young troop that was eventually returned to the wild.
Baboons are an essential part of our natural heritage, and as humans, we have a responsibility to safeguard both them and their natural habitats.
Caging is never the answer.
To the Cape Town officials considering trapping and caging troops on the peninsula: you know there are better alternatives.
Do not choose cruelty over conservation. Do the right thing.
Happy Heritage Day! 🙂
