Today, we celebrate World Rhino Day and the incredible work being done to protect one of Africa’s most iconic and threatened species.

We were proud to host World Rhino Day in collaboration with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and Babanango Game Reserve, bringing together conservation partners, stakeholders and the Babanango community in support of rhino conservation.

A heartfelt thank you to the Babanango community, our partners, stakeholders and everyone who participated and helped make the day meaningful and impactful. Such involvement demonstrates the important role that communities and partnerships play in protecting our wildlife and natural heritage.

Rhino conservation is not the responsibility of one organisation or one sector, it is a shared responsibility. By working together, raising awareness and supporting conservation efforts, we can help secure a future where rhinos continue to roam freely for generations to come.

In partnership with The Babanango Foundation and what3words, Me.You.Us are piloting an initiative that allows individuals around the world to directly support conservation efforts at Babanango by contributing towards a specific 3m × 3m square within the reserve for just $3.

What does a square have to do with conservation?

what3words has divided the world into 3m x 3m squares, each with its own unique three-word address. Through Me You Us, you can connect your contribution to a precise square within a participating protected area.

You’re supporting conservation, not buying land. The square gives you a tangible connection to the landscape you’re helping protect.

Meet Me You Us: a micro-fundraising platform that makes conservation something everyone can be part of. Using what3words technology, we connect your contribution to a precise 3m x 3m square within a protected area, giving you a real place to see and connect with.

Nature faces a major funding shortfall. By bringing small contributions together, we aim to help fund conservation on the ground. Our first project is Babanango Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Congratulations to Sbonga Ngwenya, recipient of The Babanango Foundation Field Guide Bursary!

On the 8th of July, we had the pleasure of welcoming Sbonga to the new Bushwise student intake, as they embarked on their field guide training journey.

Sbonga, who comes from one of the local communities surrounding Babanango Game Reserve, has been awarded The Babanango Foundation Field Guide Bursary as part of our commitment to creating opportunities for local youth to pursue meaningful careers in conservation.

At The Babanango Foundation, we believe that investing in people is investing in the future of conservation. By equipping young people with valuable skills and career opportunities, we are helping to grow the next generation of field guides and conservation leaders while creating lasting benefits for our neighbouring communities.

Partnership and collaboration in action

The Babanango Foundation was proud to host a Community River Clean-Up along the Umfolozi River, bringing together the energetic young people of Nhlopheni and Machitshane to make a tangible difference in their environment.

This initiative was about more than collecting litter, it was about fostering environmental stewardship, building community pride, and inspiring the next generation to become champions of conservation.

Together, we demonstrated that when communities unite around a shared purpose, small actions create lasting impact.

This week, The Babanango Foundation is proud to partner with Kingsley Holgate Foundation in the Rhino Art Programme.

A total of 8 schools surrounding The Babanango Game Reserve will be visited this week, where learners will gain valuable knowledge about rhino protection, biodiversity, and the importance of wildlife conservation.

Yesterday, 770 learners from Babanango Primary School and Nhlengile Combined School participated in an exciting and informative programme filled with creativity, learning, and conservation awareness.

Through engaging art activities, learners are encouraged to express their understanding of wildlife conservation while developing a deeper appreciation for protecting our natural heritage for future generations.

Together, we continue to inspire young environmental champions and strengthen conservation education within our communities.
