This week, The Babanango Foundation is proud to partner with Kingsley Holgate Foundation in the Rhino Art Programme.

A total of 8 schools surrounding The Babanango Game Reserve will be visited this week, where learners will gain valuable knowledge about rhino protection, biodiversity, and the importance of wildlife conservation.

Yesterday, 770 learners from Babanango Primary School and Nhlengile Combined School participated in an exciting and informative programme filled with creativity, learning, and conservation awareness.

Through engaging art activities, learners are encouraged to express their understanding of wildlife conservation while developing a deeper appreciation for protecting our natural heritage for future generations.

Together, we continue to inspire young environmental champions and strengthen conservation education within our communities.

From the 17th–19th of March, The Babanango Foundation was proud to partner with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife in hosting a highly impactful Career Expo in Babanango, reaching close to 1,000 matric learners from six local high schools.

This inspiring three-day event created a valuable platform for learners to engage directly with leading institutions such as, Durban University of Technology, Mangosuthu University of Technology, Unisa - The University of South Africa, Umgungundlovu TVET College, and Ithuba Agribusiness. Learners received critical guidance on career pathways, application processes, and opportunities for further education and training.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Ezemvelo for their partnership and commitment to empowering young people, as well as to all participating institutions for investing their time and expertise in shaping the future of our learners.

Together, we are opening doors and creating pathways to opportunity.

On 6 March, members of the Springfield community enjoyed a wonderful Community Game Drive at Babanango Game Reserve. Twelve participants had the opportunity to see wildlife up close, learn about different animals, and gain a deeper understanding of conservation.

For many, it was a special experience to witness these animals in their natural habitat and appreciate the beauty of nature around them.

One participant, Ka Malevu, shared:
"It was very enjoyable because we saw animals, including rhinos. We are very thankful to the Foundation and Babanango Game Reserve. We learned many things about animals that we did not know before."

The day was filled with excitement, learning, and appreciation for nature. We are grateful to create opportunities that connect our surrounding communities with wildlife and conservation.

Community Organic Farming

This week, we kicked things off with an exciting Organic Farming Programme in Babanango. One of the first lessons was a powerful reminder of the importance of healthy soil. Soil is a true gift from nature, and like any gift, it must be cherished and nourished with the right nutrients to sustain life.

Participants arrived eager and well prepared, bringing along kitchen scraps and recyclable materials to begin the learning journey in a practical way. Together, we explored the process of creating organic compost, discovering the balance between brown materials and green materials, and how these elements work together to create nutrient-rich soil.

It has been a fantastic week of learning, hands-on training, and community collaboration.

Every seed of knowledge planted during this programme will grow into something meaningful, strengthening sustainable farming practices and supporting the future of the Babanango community.

🌟 BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES AT BABANANGO! 🌟

What an incredible day of learning, creativity, and inspiration with the amazing Babanango Community!

Our entrepreneurship training was buzzing with energy as participants discovered that business is an art and they are the artists!

We learnt how we buy with our EYES and how standing out from the crowd starts with thinking differently. No more making what everyone else makes!

Beaded "B's" for Babanango! Using beautiful, creative techniques, the participants crafted stunning beaded pieces that can be turned into magnets & keychains. Unique. Sellable!

Every single participant had the courage to present their small business idea to the group and walked away with real sales using their brand new skills!

This is just the beginning. We are committed to continuing to mentor these incredible entrepreneurs as they build businesses, grow confidence, and create a stronger economic future for Babanango.

The future is bright, and it's being built right here, one fantastic idea at a time.

On 17 February 2026, 18 passionate ECD teachers gathered in Matatane for the Entrepreneurial Skills for Young Ones Workshop, proudly hosted by The Babanango Foundation.

The workshop focused on equipping educators with fun, practical ways to introduce entrepreneurship in early childhood development. Through lively discussions and idea-sharing, teachers explored how everyday activities (from play and role-play to saving and gardening) can nurture confidence, responsibility, creativity, and problem-solving skills in young children.

Beyond the learning, the session created a valuable space for connection, collaboration, and inspiration among educators committed to shaping the future of their communities.

Together, we are building strong foundations for our children, our classrooms, and our communities.

In this inspiring story, we share the journey of Mmeli Buthelezi, a dedicated borehole maintenance officer who safeguards and monitors his community’s borehole, ensuring families continue to access safe, reliable water.

This is a powerful reminder that sustainable change happens when communities are empowered to lead and protect the resources they depend on.
