People Planet

People Planet Durban-based non-profit advancing people's well-being and protecting the planet.

We partner with communities, government, and businesses to improve water infrastructure, provide clean water & sanitation, and drive sustainable solutions for the future. triple-P is a non-profit organisation that provides holistic, practical, and sustainable solutions to help tackle social, economic, and environmental challenges in marginalised communities. The triple-P approach centres around th

e interdependence of PLANET, PEOPLE and PARTNERSHIPS, the three most critical factors in ensuring social well-being, economic growth, and a healthy environment. By providing water and sanitation solutions to marginalised communities our mission is to tackle the water crisis in South Africa while empowering communities to safeguard the natural environment and sustain their livelihoods through skills and enterprise development. In this way, we believe we can achieve our vision of fostering a culture that places importance on protecting the environment and enables communities to proactively engage in conservation efforts. Through our work, not only do we foster thriving communities and promote the health of our ecosystems but we enable corporate & government partners to fulfil their commitments to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Corporate Social Investment (CSI), and National Development Plans (NDP). We currently work with various communities in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape and are expanding into the rest of South Africa too.

πŸ’§ Through the Water for Life Project, People Planet empowers learners to become Water Monitors in their schools. Supported by educators, they conduct weekly inspections to identify leaks and other water-related issues early, helping prevent water loss, reduce waste, and promote responsible water use.

Water Monitors also encourage their peers to value and conserve water, building a culture of water stewardship among young people.

As learners help protect water resources at school, we encourage everyone to do the same at home, at work, and in their communities by regularly checking for leaks and using water wisely.

🚰 Together, we can reduce water wastage, protect our precious water resources, and create a more sustainable future.

🌊 WORLD OCEANS DAY 2026 | SUSTAINING WHAT SUSTAINS US 🌍

Covering more than 70% of the Earth's surface, the ocean is the planet's largest life-support system. It produces approximately half of the oxygen we breathe, absorbs about 25% of human-generated carbon dioxide emissions, and plays a critical role in regulating the global climate.

Yet our oceans face unprecedented pressures from plastic pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, and climate change. Rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification, and marine pollution are threatening marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on healthy oceans for food, employment, and cultural well-being.

Healthy oceans provide invaluable ecosystem services, including:

🐟 Supporting marine biodiversity and fisheries

🌱 Absorbing carbon and helping regulate the climate

πŸͺΈ Protecting coastlines through coral reefs and coastal ecosystems

πŸ’™ Supporting livelihoods and food security for billions of people

🌍 Sustaining global ecological balance and human well-being

Scientific research consistently shows that protecting marine ecosystems, reducing pollution, promoting sustainable fisheries, and expanding marine protected areas are essential for ensuring resilient oceans for future generations.

This World Oceans Day, let us recognise that the health of our oceans is inseparable from the health of our planet.

🌊 Protect the Ocean. Protect Our Future.

🌍 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 | Conserving Water for People and Planet πŸ’§

Freshwater ecosystems are among the most threatened on Earth. Increasing water demand, pollution, and climate change are placing unprecedented pressure on our rivers, wetlands, and groundwater resources. In South Africa, these challenges are expected to intensify, making water conservation more important than ever.

Water conservation is not only about ensuring a reliable water supply for communities, it is also about protecting the natural ecosystems that sustain life. Healthy rivers and wetlands support biodiversity, improve water quality, reduce flood risks, and help communities adapt to a changing climate.

By using water responsibly, we can:

πŸ’§ Reduce pressure on rivers, wetlands, and aquifers
πŸ’§ Protect biodiversity and vital ecosystem services
πŸ’§ Maintain environmental flows needed for healthy aquatic ecosystems
πŸ’§ Build resilience to drought and climate change
πŸ’§ Safeguard water resources for future generations

Every litre saved makes a difference.

Through our water conservation initiatives, People Planet has helped save more than 50 million litres of drinking water, reducing pressure on scarce water resources while creating more sustainable schools and communities.

This World Environment Day, let's remember that conserving water is one of the simplest and most powerful actions we can take for both people and the planet. πŸŒ±πŸ’™

πŸ’§πŸŽ¨ Inspiring the Next Generation of Water Champions! πŸŽ¨πŸ’§

Our Water for Life Project is about more than just upgrading water infrastructure and fixing leaks in schools β€” it's about creating a culture of responsible water use that will last for generations.

Through education, awareness, and creative activities, we are helping learners and educators understand the true value of water and why every drop counts. πŸŒπŸ’™

Recently, learners used art and creativity to share powerful messages about protecting our precious water resources. Their drawings and ideas reflected not only their understanding of water conservation but also their commitment to making a difference.

By encouraging young minds to think critically about water challenges and solutions, we are nurturing a generation that values water, respects natural resources, and understands the importance of safeguarding them for the future.

Together, we're building water-wise schools, empowered communities, and a more sustainable tomorrow. πŸ’¦βœ¨

People Planet: Making Every Drop Count!

Water shortage is no longer a distant threat; it’s a daily reality for many communities. Through our Water for Tomorrow Programme, we’ve already saved an incredible 45.7 million litres of water by upgrading water infrastructure in 44 schools across Durban.

But we’re not stopping there. Our goal is bold: 200 million litres saved by 2030. That means we still have 154.3 million litres to go, and we need partners, communities, and changemakers to help us get there.

Every litre saved is a step towards a more sustainable future. 🌍
Together, we’re protecting our planet one school, one drop at a time.

eThekwini (Durban) and Mangaung (Bloemfontein) have the dubious honour of being the two leakiest cities in South Africa, with more than 40% of their purified tap water supplies going to waste.

On March 22nd, we celebrated World Water Day with hearts full of gratitude! πŸ’§

As we wrap up an inspiring Water Month, we're thrilled to share the powerful voices of two talented young poets from Sawela Primary School. Their heartfelt words capture the beauty and preciousness of water in the most moving way β€” reminding us why every drop truly matters.

At People Planet, we’re proud to have saved over 34 million liters of water across the schools we work with, specifically 720,000 liters at Sawela Primary School, tangible impact that directly benefits learners and teachers. Together, we’re turning awareness into real impact β€” one school, one poem, and one conserved drop at a time!

Water is Life. Let’s keep protecting it.

As we celebrated Global Recycling Day β™»οΈπŸŒ β€” March 18th β€” People Planet is thrilled to highlight our latest milestone: 360 tons of glass successfully recycled and kept out of landfills! πŸš€πŸ’š

This powerful achievement stems from tireless collections across 18 diverse establishments β€” restaurants, taverns, malls, shopping centres, waste disposal sites, and even reclaimed illegal dumping areas.

Every sorted bottle, every collection drive, and every community partner turns waste into real opportunity β€” conserving resources, cleaning our environment, and building a sustainable future together.

A huge thank you to our incredible teams, partners, and local heroes making this impact happen, one ton at a time! πŸ’ͺ Let's keep the momentum going β€” recycle today, thrive tomorrow.

πŸ’§ Empowering schools for sustainable water management! 🏫 People Planet hosted a Schools’ Project Committee Workshop where schools in the Water for Life project gathered at Khuthala Primary Hall. EThekwini Water and Sanitation (EWS) highlighted the importance of wise water use, alongside our rights and responsibilities concerning sanitation and hygiene. πŸ—£οΈ Representatives then learned to monitor water infrastructure using specially designed People Planet monitoring forms tailored to the schools' water systems πŸ“, received user guides for wise water use, and got hands-on demos for early problem detection. πŸ› οΈ We stressed sharing these crucial insights with all school stakeholders to ensure long-term care and responsible water consumption. Together, we're nurturing a culture of water stewardship! 🌍

Let's extend this vital practice: monitor your water infrastructure at home 🏑 and in your business 🏒 to nip problems in the bud and use water wisely!
