Ulwazi Fefe Home Caring

Ulwazi Fefe Home Caring is a certified NPO currently made up of six members, which has been running since 2017. It is a community-based shelter which was run out of founder Agnes Koekie Mokoena's one-man apartment in the Alexandra Township, South Africa. However, we have currently found a temporary kitchen space within the same area that we are using. The NPO offers meals for up to five hundred homeless individuals and community members three times a day. We also provide support for individuals from the street who suffer from substance abuse, helping them by providing information referral for rehabilitation centres, and reintroducing them back into the community. The organization provides confidential support to families affected by drug abuse along-side group meetings. The NPO also helps feed and fosters some of the children on the street from Koekie’s apartment.

Ulwazi Fefe Home Caring aims to share food to the public, implement basic needs, create knowledge on health and rehabilitation, and overall improve the well-being of the community.

What makes us unique is our relationship with our beneficiaries and community, as we are well respected and appreciated for the giving nature which Koekie has implemented within us. Koekie herself from the age of 13 was living on the streets looking after her 2 younger siblings, until she found a space to live. Thus, she understands the importance of helping others in need.

One of our big projects is to try get a permanent functional kitchen space for Ulwazi Fefe Home Caring so that we can safely serve and store food, and give back to the community. We are in need of funding for expenses which contribute to running the organisation, such as paying for food and transport.
