The Alberton Lions Club would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the wonderful ladies of ARV, their friends as well as members of the club who so generously donated the most beautifully knitted items for our Mommy Care Bags at our knitting social last week.

Your time, talent, and kindness have created gifts that will bring warmth, comfort, and joy to new mothers and their babies.

These handmade treasures will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the families who receive them. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and support.

A sincere thank you to all our guests who attended. We enjoyed having you with us and hope to welcome you again soon.

Congratulations to Lions Melinda and Stephen on celebrating their June birthdays, and to Lions Sandy, George, and Riekie on their club anniversaries. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to serving our community. May you continue making a difference for many years to come.

President Mukesh delivered an emotional message of gratitude as he reflected on his two years of service as Club President. We thank him for his leadership, commitment, and passion during his term.

We now look forward to the start of the 2026/27 Lionistic year on 1 July, when a new President will take office and a new Board of Directors will be introduced.

ALBERTON LIONS CLUB CALLS ON COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT HUNGER FUND FOOD DRIVE

The Alberton Lions Club is once again reaching out to the community for support as it continues its mission to assist vulnerable families and individuals facing food insecurity within the Alberton area.

Food collection drives will take place on Saturday, 6 June 2026, and Saturday, 27 June 2026, at Bracken City Pick n Pay from 08h00 to 12h00.

During these collection mornings, Lions members and Friends of the Lions will be stationed at the store, encouraging shoppers to donate non-perishable food items and other essential groceries that will be used to compile much-needed food hampers for struggling families in our community.

We appeal to the public to dig deep into their hearts and pockets and help us make a difference. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us provide hope and relief to those experiencing hunger.

For those unable to attend the collections in person, donations can also be made through the Pick n Pay ASAP app or via direct deposit into the club's bank account:

Alberton Lions Club
Bank: Absa
Account Number: 1005701488
Reference: Hunger Fund

The Alberton Lions Club relies heavily on the generosity of local residents, businesses, and sponsors to continue its community service initiatives.
Funds and food collected during these drives will directly benefit families and individuals in need throughout the Alberton area.

Together, we can help ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

Serving with Compassion at the Annual Street Store
On Saturday, 30 May, the Alberton Lions Club joined hands with Doxa Deo, several churches, organisations, and dedicated volunteers at Ligstad for the annual Street Store initiative.

The Street Store provides an opportunity for those less fortunate to experience the dignity of "shopping" for much-needed essentials, including clothing, shoes, toiletries, hotdogs, and fresh fruit. It was a heartwarming day filled with kindness, generosity, and community spirit.

Our Lions members, together with Friends of the Lions and many other volunteers, worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure that every person who attended was welcomed and assisted. While it was certainly hard work, every moment was thoroughly enjoyed as we served our community and witnessed the difference that collective compassion can make.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and contributed to making this event such a tremendous success. We are extremely thankful to Lion Lana and other members of the club for assisting with the sorting of the clothes over several weeks. Together, we brought hope, dignity, and practical support to those who needed it most.

We are already looking forward to being part of next year's Street Store and continuing to make a positive impact in our community.
