MAAKUM Foundation Launches a Free Medical Camp for 100 Cataract Surgeries in Taiz.

Ma'akum Developmental Foundation (MAAKUM) launched today a free eye medical camp to perform cataract surgeries in Taiz Governorate. The initiative is supported by PIOUS PROJECTS and funded through PURE HANDS, in coordination with the relevant official authorities.
The medical camp aims to perform 100 free cataract removal surgeries, alongside necessary medical examinations and consultations. This initiative enables underprivileged patients to access specialized ophthalmic surgical services, relieving the therapeutic and financial burdens on them and their families.
The inauguration was attended by the Deputy Governor of Taiz for Health Affairs, Dr. Ilan Abdulhaq; Director General of the Social Affairs and Labor Office in the governorate, Fouad Al-Faqih; Director of the PURE HANDS office in Taiz, Abdulqader Al-Maqra’i and Executive Director of MAAKUM Foundation, Yasser Al-Oshari, alongside several officials, medical personnel, and project organizers.
During the launch, Dr. Ilan Abdulhaq praised the significance of the camp in improving public access to specialized healthcare services and supporting efforts to combat avoidable blindness. She expressed appreciation to the supporting and implementing organizations, as well as the participating medical teams, emphasizing the necessity of continuing health initiatives targeted at the most vulnerable groups.
For his part, Fuad Al-Faqih highlighted the importance of strengthening partnership and coordination among government bodies, NGOs, and developmental foundations to deliver health and humanitarian interventions that address community needs and alleviate the suffering of underprivileged people.
Meanwhile, Yasser Al-Oshari, Executive Director of MAAKUM Development Foundation, explained that the project responds to the growing demand for ophthalmic services, particularly among families unable to afford surgical costs. He noted that performing 100 free operations will contribute significantly to restoring sight to beneficiaries and improving their quality of life.
Al-Oshari expressed gratitude for the support of PIOUS PROJECTS and the funding provided through PURE HANDS, as well as the cooperation of the local authority and the offices of Public Health & Population and Social Affairs & Labor in Taiz Governorate for facilitating project implementation. He reiterated the foundation's commitment to sustaining health interventions and expanding partnerships to serve those in greatest need.
In the same context, Mohammed Al-Haidari, Project Officer at PURE HANDS office in Taiz, noted that funding this camp aligns with the organization's focus on high-impact health and humanitarian interventions, stressing the vital role of local partnerships in delivering specialized medical services to eligible beneficiaries.
This project falls within joint efforts to combat blindness, expand access to specialized healthcare services, restore sight, and enhance the overall quality of life for beneficiaries.
