Food for Humanity condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the heinous assassination of Ms. Aftihan Al-Mashhary, Director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Taiz Governorate and a prominent academic leader at the University of Taiz.
This cowardly and treacherous act constitutes a flagrant assault on the safety and stability of society and a gross violation of fundamental human, moral, and religious values. It marks a shameful precedent targeting a woman who dedicated her life to serving her community and country.
Her loss is an irreparable tragedy for Taiz and for Yemen as a whole, leaving a void in public service and academic life. Food for Humanity calls on all national actors, official institutions, and those who still hold a sense of humanity and justice to unequivocally denounce this abhorrent crime and reject all forms of violence and criminality, regardless of any pretext or motive.
We express our deepest sorrow and sympathy to her family, colleagues, and community. We urge the Attorney General and competent security authorities to act swiftly and decisively to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice without delay. Justice must be served in a manner that protects the lives of innocent people, safeguards the security and stability of Taiz, and upholds the rule of law. Ensuring accountability and providing effective protection to all Yemenis—especially those working tirelessly to advance peace, justice, and development—is imperative to preserve human dignity and build a future free from violence and impunity.
