Mwatana for Human Rights calls upon the international community to intensify its efforts to ensure that perpetrators of international crimes and gross violations in Yemen do not enjoy impunity, and to establish independent and effective international mechanisms for investigation, collection, and preservation of evidence, as a fundamental pillar for activating criminal accountability. Furthermore, Mwatana renews its call to the UN Security Council to fulfill its legal responsibilities under the UN Charter and to refer the situation in Yemen to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

On the occasion of the International Criminal Justice Day, Mwatana for Human Rights affirms that the behavioral patterns and gross violations of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law, which it has documented throughout the years of conflict in Yemen by various parties some of which amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity necessitate the activation of independent and effective international investigative mechanisms, and ensuring the prosecution and accountability of all perpetrators involved.

In addition to systematic psychological intimidation and its long-term psychological repercussions on survivors, torture and ill-treatment have resulted in severe physical injuries. These included bone and tooth fractures, partial or total loss of senses such as hearing and sight, as well as burns and permanent physical deformities. Furthermore, some victims left detention centers with mobility impairments or chronic illnesses, including kidney failure resulting from severe beatings, while others suffered from acute skin diseases and infections due to harsh detention conditions and the lack of necessary medical care.
