"Literature in Transit" is the motto of the second international literature festival in Tirana „The White Sea II“, 29-31 October 2015. Authors from Albania, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Netherlands etc. are invited to dialogoue with each-other and the wider public, youth, students and those passionate of literature. Literature in transit provides the gu
ests with an opportunity to discuss a series of topics not only related to the current literary situation, but also related to the position of the guest authors, the literary path and life experience of those who have been marked by the transition. A part of the writers invited write in the language of host countries, clearly enlivening an ever so present phenomenon in global literature history. The departure of the writer from the country of birth for political, economic, or simply cultural reasons, or even the birth of writers in bordering countries has pushed them to make a language choice, which is then written in the fates of people in their works. Transition has thus become their literature. This phenomenon has never more than now presented itself so clearly in the context of a continent that never ceases to discover itself. The purpose of this festival is to introduce these topics and human fates in a dialogue with a public that has experienced another type of transition for the last 25 years – not the projected transition of the writers, but the real, political, and social transition.Especially the Albanian younger public needs these perceptions coming to them from various countries in Europe. Thus the festival aims at becoming an open forum for the authors and the public. The literary festival “Literature in Transit” is organized by IDMC (Institute for Democracy, Media & Culture) with support of the Ministry of Culture (Albania) and Allianz Cultural Foundation (Berlin). The festival is also supported by a series of institutions such as the National Museum, the National Theater, the National Library, the University of Tirana (the Department of Literature and the Faculty of Foreign Languages), Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (Office in Tirana), the Embassies of Austria, France and Switzerland.
