Humphrey’s Freedom Fund Honoring Humphrey🩵🐾
Former research dog, forever loved. Continuing his legacy by helping lab dogs find freedom & family. One dog at a time🤍

25/06/2026

I get asked these questions all the time, so I thought I’d answer a few of the most common ones🩵

Every former research dog is an individual, but Humphrey showed me just how loving, resilient, and adaptable these dogs can be.

If you have a question about former research dogs, leave it in the comments. I’d love to answer it in a future post!

Together, we can help more people understand these incredible dogs and the lives they deserve🐾

One detail many people don’t know about research dogs is that they’re often identified by numbers or tattoos.

Humphrey carried that reminder of his past, but it never defined who he was.

He was loving, gentle, curious, and full of personality.

He was never “just” a research dog.

He was Humphrey.

Every research dog deserves the chance to be seen for who they truly are. Not where they came from🐾

Not everyone can adopt a research dog, but everyone can help🩵

You can make a difference by:

🐾 Sharing their stories
🐾 Supporting rescue organizations
🐾 Volunteering or fostering
🐾 Donating when you’re able
🐾 Helping spread awareness

Every action, no matter how small, helps more dogs find the love and freedom they deserve.

What’s one way you support rescue dogs? Let me know below. 🐶

The research lab was only one chapter of Humphrey’s life.

The next ten years were filled with comfort, adventure, family, and unconditional love.

Humphrey showed me that a dog’s past does not define their future.

Every research dog deserves the chance to write a new chapter beyond the lab🐾

I am beyond thrilled about this!!!!💚🙌🏽🐾

🚨 BREAKING: Ridglan Farms is shutting down.

The Wisconsin facility that bred beagles for laboratory testing will close its operations, and every remaining dog is expected to be transferred to animal welfare organizations for rehabilitation, fostering, and adoption.

More than 1,600 dogs have already been removed from Ridglan. The remaining dogs are scheduled to leave in the coming weeks, marking the end of one of the nation's most notorious laboratory-animal breeding operations.

This is a landmark victory for animal welfare and a testament to the power of advocacy, legal action, public pressure, and direct negotiations.

For thousands of beagles who were born into the laboratory supply pipeline, a new chapter is beginning.

Ridglan is closing. The dogs are getting out. And there is still more work ahead to end dog testing nationwide.

Humphrey didn’t know he was a research dog.

He didn’t know what people called him or where he fit into the world.

He just wanted the same things every dog wants:
A safe place to sleep.
Someone to love.
Someone to love him back.

After being rescued from a research lab at 4 years old, Humphrey spent the next 10 years finally experiencing what it meant to be part of a family.

Every research dog deserves that chance🩵🐾

Humphrey loved a lot of things in life, but nothing made him happier than being close to the people he loved. 🩵

Whether he was cuddled up on the couch, sleeping beside me, or simply following me from room to room, he always wanted to be near his family.

For a dog who spent the first four years of his life in a laboratory, watching him experience love, comfort, and belonging was something I’ll never take for granted.

I’ll miss him forever, but I’ll always be grateful for the 10 years he got to spend being exactly what he was meant to be. A beloved family dog. 🐾
