What lives in Shark River?
Uca pugnax, the marsh or mud fiddler crab, is one of New Jersey’s most abundant fiddler crabs. Often found in large groups, these tiny crabs play an important role in the salt marsh ecosystem. Their extensive burrowing aerates and turns over marsh sediments, helping cycle nutrients such as nitrogen.
