What do educators think about outdoor learning?
Within the LIFENAT needs analysis, educators from early childhood education shared their perspectives through surveys and focus group discussions.
The findings highlight a strong level of professional interest in outdoor learning approaches. Many educators report that children are more engaged, calmer, and socially active when learning outdoors.
Teachers also observe that outdoor environments encourage exploration and allow children’s personalities and interactions to emerge more naturally.
However, the research also identified an important challenge. While educators value outdoor learning, many expressed the need for:
• practical activities and lesson ideas
• guidance on linking outdoor experiences to the curriculum
• additional training and resources
These insights confirm the relevance of the Lifenat: Little Footsteps IN NATure project in supporting educators with structured methodologies and practical tools for outdoor learning.
