The Fun of Phonics is a curriculum for teaching reading and writing using sounds (phonics) in Uganda. The Fun of Phonics started in Uganda this year. The founder, Jody Spencer, came to Uganda to volunteer as a primary school teacher in 2014. She was surprised to see the extremely low levels of children's reading and writing in primary schools and as a result started teaching phonics. What started with teaching remedial phonics for upper primary and co-teaching phonics with infant classes; has progressed to running teacher trainings across Uganda. It is exciting to see teachers learning new skills and children's reading and writing improving with The Fun of Phonics. The Fun of Phonics is an active and locally relevant curriculum which includes songs and actions for teaching sounds. To get in touch with us, email: [email protected]
