Did You Know?

The spaces around us can influence how connected we feel to the people around us.

A park bench. A library. A community centre. A public square. A neighbourhood gathering place.

When spaces give people reasons to stop, return and interact, they can become places where relationships and a stronger sense of community grow.

What's a space in Waterloo Region that feels like a true community gathering place to you?

Today is International Day of Democracy. 🌎

Democracy is more than elections. It's participation.

It's staying informed, asking questions, volunteering, listening to different perspectives, supporting your community and making your voice heard.

And every one of us has a role to play.

Here in Waterloo Region, there are countless ways to participate, and you don't need to know everything or make a huge commitment to get started.

Today, we're asking Waterloo Region one simple question:
What does democracy in action look like to you?

Tell us below. Then visit our Resources page to discover ways to turn that answer into action: https://www.democracyinactionwr.ca/new-page .

International Day of Democracy is next week, but democracy doesn't only happen at the ballot box.

It happens when we volunteer, when we learn about the issues affecting our community, when we listen to our neighbours, when we support local organizations. And when we use our voices to help shape the places we call home.

That's democracy in action.

As September 15 approaches, we're challenging Waterloo Region to find one way to get more involved.

Not sure where to start? Our Resources page connects you with organizations, tools and opportunities that can help.

What's one way you show up for your community?

🍂 September is here, and with a new season comes plenty of ways to connect with Waterloo Region.

From exploring local spaces at Doors Open and experiencing Lumen to volunteering at community events or finding a new organization to support, getting involved can start with something small.

And with International Day of Democracy coming up on September 15, it's a great reminder that democracy happens beyond the ballot box. It happens when we participate, listen, learn and show up for the communities around us.

So this month, try something new. Attend an event. Volunteer. Meet a neighbour. Explore a community space. Learn about an issue that matters to you.
