As we always says… Be Different-Servant to God, Country, Fraternity/Sorority, Make a Difference-Be Honorable, Be a ΣAEpsilonian-Loyal as Always… About Us Service, Honor, and Loyalty of ΣAE We fondly call our organization as ΣAE, pronounced as “Sa-eh”, which obviously refers to our fraternity/sorority, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity/Sorority, Philippines-International. On the other hand, we also call our members as “Epsilonians”. To the members, the calling denotes and connotes exclusivity. It would remind us how difficult it was in joining ΣAE and how elated we are being called Epsilonian. We always remember that. We earned it by passing through the “hole of a needle”. If your entry was an easy one, then there was something wrong in the process. Initiation is always to be a difficult one. It cannot be done without hazing. But to us physical hazing is not allowed. Ours is designed to test the psychological and intellectual bearing of the person. Sometimes this is done by doing some embarrassing or humiliating situation. When we were recognized as a member of ΣAE-Fraternity/Sority, Philippines-International; we were definitely baptized as an Epsilonian. It is this exclusive membership that we hope will guide us towards the attainment of some specific objectives. Those objectives are clearly written in our Constitution and By-Laws. However, I would attempt to spell out that the expected end result of attaining those objectives is “a ΣAE with members who possess identifiable unified characteristics that would exhibit similar behavior”. What characteristics and behavior am I insinuating? The answer will remind me of what we mean by brotherhood when we started ΣAE. We use to mean service, honor, and loyalty. We adopted these three words to describe the tenets of our brotherhood. But at that time, we didn’t have the chance to fully defined them as what we intended to mean. With due respect, allow me therefore to elucidate my idea of what can be used as a guide in emulating the desired characteristics and behavior that will summarize the foundation of the ΣAE and the Epsilonians; using the above three words. The first is the readiness to give SERVICE. This I think is an Epsilonian’s tenet of brotherhood and sisterhood. We are looking forward that those who have the capability and opportunity to help would willingly extend the needed service to the needy. This help means more of developing the opportunity and potentials of the one in need. For instance, if one Epsilonian goes to politics, the all Epsilonian must rally behind him/her. If a Br. or Sr. needs employment or promotion and have the capability and opportunity to facilitate, then he/she gets extra hidden qualification. If you are hiring someone, why not get always an Epsilonian? By all means this should be our unwritten doctrine! And this makes us different from the others. But of course, we understand that service is not only from within. There is no doubt about that. The second is always to have an HONOR. It is another tenet of the Epsilonian. It will encourage every Epsilonian to impose upon them the responsibility for upholding high ethical standards in their private and public lives. Any member who is not honest is not worth the calling. I always believe that honesty by all Epsilonian will bring honor to the name of the organization. We should at all times strive to do the best for ΣAE’s best. It means fighting for integrity over superiority. Dishonesty in either private or public life is the worst enemy of the ΣAE. At the outset, an Epsilonian should always strive to be an ideal law abiding citizen. That is what ΣAE is for. It is our ensemble. The third is the manifestation of LOYALTY. I will also persuade all members of the fraternity to exhibit high quality of loyalty in the organization and among members. Essentially this can be done by faithful allegiance to our Constitution and By-Laws, traditions, and issuances. In every opportunity, let it be known that we are Epsilonians. We will be a good ΣAE if we are able to support our Constitution and By-Laws according to its content and spirit. And basically, we will be familiar with it if we have a copy to read from time to time. It is the Bible of ΣAE. No one can be expected to be loyal on something he/she does not know in the first place. Let us avoid liberalism in the practice of our loyalty. Let’s be die-hard through and through. In anything an Epsilonian is engage in, he/she should exhibit that high standard of loyalty. We can only be loyal to others if we are loyal to ourselves. Believe it or not, no one can stop ΣAE. It will always grow as its growing. It will always be there; giving Services, being Honorable as always and Loyal than ever. By: Br. Engr. Arsenio U. Baquilid, Alpha 65′ co-founder ΣAE-Philippines-International
