Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization. We provide medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. MSF was founded in 1971 and today we are a worldwide movement of nearly 65,000 people from over 160 countries. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence and neutrality. Our decision to offer assistance is based on our evaluation of medical needs, independent of political, economic or religious interests. Over the past decade of conflict in Syria, MSF has consistently readapted to the changing context to continue responding to growing humanitarian and medical needs in the country and around the region. This ranges from trauma and wound care to maternal and child health services, as well as vaccination campaigns aimed at preventing the spread of deadly diseases and the provision of mental health services to a population deeply traumatised by a decade of conflict. Today, in northwest and northeast Syria, MSF supports hospitals, Primary Health Care centres (PHCs) as well as mobile clinics for Internally Displaced People (IDP) camps. MSF also regularly carries out Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities in these camps.
