New episode of All Things Adrenal out now! “Am I Going To Reach The Median Age For My Disease?” with Andrew Lyle Gowan.

Andrew has been living without adrenal glands for more than 30 years, a journey that started with their removal when he was just 10 years old and was the entry point to his diagnosis of von Hippel-Lindau disease. Life without these organs presents some unique challenges, often with one condition complicating management of the other.

Andrew joins us from his home in Ontario, Canada, where he sheds light on his journey with adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, rediscovery and reinvention of self, and blazing trails on a path of what he terms anatomical minimalism.

October 18–24 is Invisible Disabilities Week. As this special week comes to a close, our support shouldn’t stop here. 💙

Just because a condition isn’t visible doesn’t mean its impact isn’t real. Let's lift each other up with empathy, belief, and action.

Thank you to the Invisible Disabilities Association (IDA) for founding this global movement in 2014 and continuing to champion this community!

“I think a lot of the time when people are dealing with any chronic illness, you can feel very isolated, you can feel alone, you feel like people don’t understand. I wanted to be somebody that says, ‘I get it, I feel you, I hear you, I go through what you go through, and I understand.'” -Jamie Lynn-Sigler, warrior of multiple sclerosis.

Sometimes, you just need someone to be there for you. That’s why we are here. We hear you, we see you, we have you. 🩵

Cushing’s syndrome can be diagnosed through various tests, including blood, saliva, and 24-hour urine tests, which measure cortisol levels. Because cortisol is normally very low at midnight, an elevated midnight salivary cortisol can be useful in the diagnosis phase.

Q: Will a spinal steroid injection affect my hydrocortisone dosing for secondary adrenal insufficiency?

A: Continue your usual hydrocortisone dose when a therapeutic steroid injection is needed. Maintaining your maintenance dose helps prevent gaps in treatment and won’t reduce the injection’s benefits. -Dr. Margulies, Medical Director of NADF
