PSS Shared Lives Shared Lives is a form of support where vulnerable adults and young people over the age of 16 live at Our carers come from all walks of life.

Shared Lives is a little bit like fostering, but with the big difference that it’s for people over the age of 16 (over 18 in Wales) who want to live as independently as possible. Shared Lives carers provide people with the practical and emotional support they need to live life the way they want to. Our Shared Lives carers support people either while they live with them, or just for the day. They c

an also become a Shared Lives carer to continue supporting someone they foster after they turn 16 or 18. Some people have had experience caring for others in the past., maybe as part of their career. Some have grown up children who’ve left home, some have large families who help to care, others live on their own with the person they support. First and foremost our carers are people who are committed to improving the lives of others. People who are caring and willing to go that little bit further to make a difference to someone else’s life. Find out more at www.sharedlivescarers.com

Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract type: Permanent
Closing date: 10th June 2026

Shared Lives is a bit like foster care but the big difference is that it’s for adults who want their own freedom and independence. Shared Lives carers empower people to be who they want to be and do what they want to do, caring for someone who lives with them or spends their days with them. There’s lots of different types of people using Shared Lives; it could be someone with a learning disability, mental health needs or people moving on from a different type of care.

What you'll be doing:
As one of our Shared Lives development workers, you’ll have an important job to do, to develop the Shared Lives service in Midlands! Using your knowledge of care and support planning, you’ll put plans in place to help people we support have their needs met and settle in with their new carer, and you’ll also be responsible for making sure this all runs smoothly.

It will be your job to find, assess and recruit carers to work as self-employed PSS Shared Lives carers, and to be a Shared Lives ambassador, welcoming people into the service and helping us promote it whenever you can.

To do this job well, you’re going to need:
Great communication skills;
Passion for finding people safe and happy homes;
An Enhanced Disclosure;
A full driving licence and use of car along with the willingness to travel to various locations;
A big heart, open mind, determination, professionalism and a genuine personality.

If this sounds like something you'd love, then please get in touch.

Details to apply are in the comments.

To welcome everyone to their new office, our wonderful team in Lincolnshire held an open day recently.

We want to say a big thank you to Lincolnshire Sensory Services for stopping by to chat with us about their work within the county, and services available to people who are Deaf, hard of hearing or visually impaired.

Our team in Lincolnshire said it was lovely to see our carers and our supported people attending.

Great to see this from Lincolnshire County Council.

What Shared Lives means to me.

For Shared Lives Week this year, we want to celebrate all the amazing things about Shared Lives and how much it means to people.

Our theme this year is ‘What Shared Lives means to me’ and we want to collect videos of our amazing Shared Lives carers and supported people talking about their experiences.

How can you get involved?

We’d love you and/or the people you support to get involved, you can do this from home, all you need is your mobile phone.

Your development workers have been sent prompt cards; the idea is that you hold it up and record yourself saying something about what Shared Lives means to you.

If you don’t want to show your face or voice on camera, that’s fine too, you can still get involved. You can record a video of you doing something you love, with the card in the video.

We've put together some example videos

We have recorded some example videos to give you some inspiration, it’s really simple to do. Can we ask that the video you record on your phone is vertical please.

Once you have recorded your video, please send it to your development worker and we can share it on our social media. If you use social media yourself, we’d love it if you could share it online and tag us

Ever wondered what a typical day in Shared Lives looks like?

The life of a PSS Shared Lives carer is probably not what you think. Take Abi here, who offers short breaks to people she supports on a regular basis. During her time with the people she supports, they can do anything from days out, walks to the park, shopping trips, family BBQ's and birthday celebrations.

Abi also does this around her job, whilst also being a Mum to her young family. Her role as a Shared Lives carer just fits so perfectly ❤️

Wondering if you could fit a caring role into your life? Pop us a message :)

One of our amazing supported people wanted to show off their creative work they did at the day centre they attend. Da iawn Gareth!

"My name is Gareth. I have a moderate learning disability. I always enjoy getting out and about, doing crafts and baking. I also love Blue Peter and history.

During the week, I attend one of Conwy’s in house Day Services where I will do a variety of activities, such as arts and crafts and accessing the community.

On one of my outings to Colwyn Bay with the Canolfan Riviere Independent Life Skills group, I visited the charity shop for the Colwyn Bay Pier. The staff supported me to buy the postcard as I liked the pictures of the pier throughout the decades on the postcard. This gave me the idea to create a picture of the first pier, using different materials to create a collage of the postcard artwork.

When looking into the history of the pier, I noticed the word ‘Riviere’ on the front of the original pier building, so staff supported me to do a little research about it. I have also made a short history of Colwyn Bay Pier through the ages up to present day.

This has been a fun project as well as a great way to find out more about local history!"
