A MESSAGE FROM THE GASCDO CEO

To our incredible global sickle cell community,

Living with a Sickle Cell and enduring daily pain does not define who you are. You are not your diagnosis. You are not your treatment plan. Taking medication or undergoing regular therapy isn't what determines your worth—it’s a tool to help you live with strength, dignity, and hope.

We know that your battles are often invisible. That many carry the weight of pain in silence, behind smiles, behind “I’m fine.” But your voice matters. Your story matters. And your needs MUST be heard.
This June 19th, on World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, I’m calling on all of us to unite in purpose and power.

Let us come together under this year’s global theme:
“Global Action, Local Impact: Empowering Communities for Effective Self-Advocacy.”

This isn’t just a slogan—it’s a call to build a stronger more connected movement. One where those living with sickle cell disease are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to speak up for themselves, influence change, and shape the future of their care and wellbeing.

Let’s use this moment to learn, to be inspired, and to take meaningful action. Whether you're a warrior, caregiver, advocate, healthcare provider, or ally—your role is vital. Together, we can build a global force that creates real, lasting impact at the community level.

Join us.
