Our aims are to improve and facilitate mutual understanding between Jews and Arabs, and to advance public understanding of the Arab and Jewish peoples’ history, language, institutions, culture and philosophies. The Arab-Jewish Forum cannot escape this reality, not does it seek to do so. But Arab-Jewish history did not begin one hundred years ago. As seminal as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is, what underlies the Arab-Jewish Forum is the belief that it should not be allowed to dominate wider Arab-Jewish relations. The relationship between Arabs and Jews has a much deeper and longer history, going back many centuries, marked mostly by cordial and productive associations. The practices, traditions and predominant beliefs of Arabs and Jews have much in common and many positive links continue to exist. The Arab-Jewish Forum was created to nourish the links in multicultural UK between these two minority communities to their mutual advantage and for the benefit of British society as a whole.
