We were honoured to host H.E. Joshua Tabah, Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya, during his visit to Bondo Technical Training Institute and The Kisumu National Polytechnic Main where he interacted and engaged with institutional leadership, Heads of Departments, Gender Leads, Industry Liaison Officers, and trainees from the engineering, mechanical, and hospitality departments.
At Bondo Technical Training Institute, the High Commissioner engaged with trainees and trainers and emphasized Canada’s continued commitment to strengthening technical training in Kenya. “Canada’s interest in supporting TVET training in Kenya is consistent,” he noted, adding that “industry engagement and feedback is critical in TVET training.” He also expressed optimism about the impact of the Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training (KBEST) Program saying, “I expect that the KBEST courses will lead to careers that can help drive growth in industries and communities and I hope that in the coming year, I will be invited to the KBEST trainees graduation event.”
During the visit to Kisumu National Polytechnic, the High Commissioner toured the Mechanical Engineering Department and an operational daycare facility that supports young mothers pursuing training. “I am very impressed with the operational day care facility. This offers an opportunity for young mothers to focus on their training,” he remarked. He also highlighted the strong collaboration behind the initiative, noting that he had seen very good examples of Canadian and Kenyan collaboration and strong partnerships between Kenya and Canadian TVET institutions.
The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between Kenya and Canada in advancing inclusive, industry-responsive technical and vocational education. 🇨🇦 🤝 🇰🇪
