We believe that the community of Ilminster has a deep desire for service. People here want to help, participate and belong to something meaningful.

The Rotary Club of Ilminster offers a welcoming, open and safe place for you to be able to do that. Our “kept short” meetings at the Shrubbery Hotel are held on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month. We usually meet at 6:00pm in order to start the meeting at 6:30pm and aim to end by 7:30pm.

Please come and talk to us about opportunities and ideas of how you can get involved. All are welcome and there is no pressure: you can do as much or as little as you wish.

During President Kirsty Hughes’s 2021/2022 Rotary year, the members of the Rotary Club of Ilminster thought that it would be a lovely idea to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2022 by donating to Ilminster a Platinum Jubilee town clock. Sadly Kirsty died before this project could be completed. The club suffered many setbacks over the next three years with this project, with things not being planned well resulting in problems falling into the ‘too difficult basket’ and all this compounded with members leaving or moving away.

The 1st July 2025 saw the start of the revitalisation of the Rotary Club of Ilminster. Over the last eight months of time, money and much effort together with loads of support and brilliant work done on our behalf by James Purnell and his team at Knight Electrical Ltd, I am delighted to report that the Platinum Jubilee Clock problems have now been firmly identified and finally corrected. We are now confident, that at long last, this clock will work correctly for many years to come.

Rotary Club of Ilminster – New members appeal.
Are you about to or have you recently retired? Could you spare a minimum of about an hour twice a month? Would you like to put something back into your community? Do you enjoy meeting new people? Are you new to our area? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, maybe being a part of our club could be your answer.
What is Rotary and what does our Rotary Club do? The answer is many things, for example supporting young people with Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA), giving practice interviews to year 11’s at Wadham School, running children’s public speaking competitions, listening to young children read and giving dictionaries to older primary school pupils.
We have also helped people in many parts of the world by raising money for Rotary’s ‘promise to eradicate polio’ together with involvements with numerous projects in India, Egypt, Ukraine and various actions for worldwide disaster relief - all of the above whilst enjoying each other’s company and gaining lots of personal satisfaction and reward.
We need more helpful members and their partners to join us to strengthen and continue these services and good work. If you would like to learn more please accept my invitation to one of our meetings. Contact:-

Rotary Club of Ilminster’s Town Clock.
As president please accept my sincere apology on behalf of the members of my club for the incorrect times shown in the past and currently on our town clock. There have been a number of issues from the start, together with some very bad luck which has led to this situation. I can now inform you that at long last we have identified the problem as a faulty clock controller which we are now taking steps to order and replace. In the meantime thank you for bearing with us.
