From Local Voices to International Human Rights Engagement
LWF Syria is pleased to announce the submission of two joint civil society reports to the fourth cycle of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Syria.
Developed through a participatory process of capacity strengthening, coalition building, consultations, research, and evidence review, the reports were prepared by two civil society coalitions:
SAWT Coalition - “The Voice” Syrian Alliance Working Together
The report addresses:
• Youth, persons with disabilities, and social cohesion
• Women’s rights, resilience, and meaningful participation
The report was submitted by the Lutheran World Federation on behalf of coalition members, including Basmeh & Zeitooneh, the Women’s Support and Empowerment Unit, the Civil Society Enablement Unit, Action for Humanity, and Finn Church Aid.
NABD Coalition
The report focuses on:
• Legal reform
• Judicial independence and access to justice
• Housing, land, and property rights
• Reintegration of returnees and internally displaced persons
The coalition brought together The Day After, the Lutheran World Federation, Basmeh & Zeitooneh, and the Stabilization Support Unit.
For the LWF Country Program in Syria, this milestone reflects our commitment to strengthening local organizations’ engagement with international human rights mechanisms and ensuring that community experiences, field evidence, and local expertise inform human rights dialogue and recommendations.
The submission of these reports is not the end of the process. It marks the beginning of continued advocacy, engagement, and follow-up.
From local evidence to international engagement-and from participation to influence.
