DFS is a local, non-profit organization founded in 1988, and is affiliated with the Citizen's Scholarship Foundation of America (CSFA) "Dollars for Scholars" program. Its purpose is to raise scholarship money to help students meet the cost of a post-high school education. The tax-exempt organization is operated entirely by local dedicated volunteers and all monies raised are awarded to Burlington Township High School graduates.

Awards are given in varying amounts depending upon the resources of the Scholarship Committee. Since its inception in 1988 over $395,000 in scholarships have been awarded to deserving students. An appointed group consisting of committee board members, a BTHS counselor, and qualified volunteers chooses award recipients. Each student who applies must complete an application, write an essay and participate in an interview. Students are judged on the basis of scholarship, school and community activities, recommendations, and personal goals. An individual, group, organization, business or industry may make contributions in any amount. All contributions are tax deductible.

1. Scholarship Trusts may be established with a contribution of $5,000 or more, which may be paid over a period of years, and will become part of a permanent endowment fund. A scholarship will be awarded each year at graduation in the NAME of your established trust.

2. Scholarship Contributions may be given in any amount. Donations under $300 will be accumulated and combined with other contributions toward scholarship awards.

3. Memorial Funds may be donated in the name of a loved one by family or friends. Family members will be informed of the donation. If the Memorial donations exceed $5,000, the monies will be transferred into a permanent Scholarship Trust. Burlington Township Scholarship Committee may also be named as a beneficiary in wills and insurance policies.

4. Honor Donations may be given to honor someone on a special personal occasion. A certificate is sent to the person informing him/her of the contribution in his/her name. THE BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE “DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS” IS CELEBRATING ITS 24th ANNIVERSARY FOR HELPING HUNDREDS OF OUR GRADUATES WITH $441,250 IN FINANCIAL AID.
