Who We Are? Bangladesh Eye Donation Society & Eye Bank is a non-profit organization founded on 1st June 2013 to motivate people for voluntary posthumous eye donation and promote awareness on preventable blindness. We aim to function as a platform for all individuals to work together to eradicate avoidable blindness from Bangladesh. What We Do? Bangladesh Eye Donation Society encourages everyone to consider eye donation by arranging awareness programs, seminars, workshops, discussions, meetings and is taking all the possible steps to motivate people to pledge their eyes to the blind. Bangladesh Eye Donation Society aims to promote awareness among people about causes of blindness and as part of our fight against preventable blindness we are running the following programs: 1. Workshop on Preventable Blindness 2. School Sight Testing Program 3. Cataract screening & Surgery program 4. Eye Care camp Why We Do It? Every 5 seconds someone in the world becomes blind. Blindness in Bangladesh is relatively less in comparison to the global blindness profile, but to the person whose vision is lost it is the curse of a lifetime. Blindness is not inevitable, if enough awareness of the causes of blindness are raised some forms of blindness can be prevented. In Bangladesh very little work has been done on posthumous eye donation due to lack of proper information and cultural beliefs. Through our work we intent to let people know that there is no harm or barrier in donating one’s eyes after death. Posthumous eye donation is the key solutions to eradicating corneal blindness and we strongly believe no one should go blind due to avoidable causes. It is with this premise the Bangladesh Eye Donation Society was formed on 1st June 2013. Our motto: ‘Omnis Visio’ (Vision for All). General Membership criteria: Any Bangladeshi citizen(Resident & Non-Resident), upon passing the HSC/A’ Levels and at least currently enrolled in any undergraduate course or has completed the course but not above the age of 50 years, who will pay membership fees on a regular basis and will participate in different activities of the Society will be a General Member of the Society.
