The local Fresno Alumnae chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Omicron Omega Chapter, was established in Fresno in 1972 and is recognized around the region for giving back to its community through “Service to All Mankind.”
Iota Omicron Omega Chapter has a long history of service to the San Joaquin Valley area. Over the past 42 years, the chapter has hosted for many years the Ebony Fa
shion Show and Dinner to raise funds for our scholarship program. Iota Omicron Chapter has presented scholarships to graduating high school seniors for scholastic achievement; co-sponsored or participated in community health fairs and educational workshops; co-sponsored annual cultural events in the Fresno area such as the Alvin Ailey Dance Troupe performances; contributed numerous donations of clothing, non-perishable food, books, and other educational materials to youth or families around the valley; and participated in Literacy Programs at various schools and neighborhoods. Most recently, the chapter annually hosts the “Pink Goes Red” Walk to support the American Heart Association, conducts a 9-month mentoring program entitled “Emerging Young Leaders (EYL)” for select high achieving girls at Baird Middle School; and annually sponsors an EYL Youth Community Summit held at the West Fresno Boys and Girls Club. Iota Omicron Omega Chapter is committed to serving the Central Valley. Chapter members live in various cities and communities in the surrounding area, therefore we are able to partner with numerous community service organizations throughout the Central Valley to ‘Make a Difference’ monthly, our chapter’s community service mission.
