In 2016, the Tennessee Department of Transportation lost three workers in the line of duty. All three were struck by passing motorists. Those tragedies bring the total number of TDOT lives lost to 112. We don’t want to lose another member of our TDOT family. We’re asking you to WORK WITH US. June 2020 Update from TDOT - Hunt Road
The Contractor drove piles and poured a footing for one column of bent 3. They also demolished the Hunt Road Bridge during the week of June 14 - 20. This required a temporary detour of Alcoa Hwy each night from 8 PM to 5 AM. The contractor is continuing with rough grading operations in the locations of Ramp A, Ramp B, and the future Tesla road extension.

Upcoming Work:
The Contractor will be driving piles for the foundation of the new Hunt Road Bridge. They will work to demo both existing abutments. This will allow the traffic to be shifted to the "runaround" and get traffic off the mainline of Alcoa Hwy (see drawing). This move will allow the contractor to buld the Alcoa Highway bridge that will be spanning the new addition to Tesla Blvd which passes below Alcoa Hwy. During the upcoming months, intermittent night-time lane closures on Alcoa Hwy will be required for construction operations. At this time, it is estimated that both bridges will be completed by December of 2020.

In addition, the contractor will continue mass grading operations for ramps A, B, C2 and D. AT&T will also be working to complete their scope of work remaining on this project.

TRAFFIC ALERT
BLOUNT COUNTY

KNOXVILLE – Motorists traveling in Blount County should be aware of an upcoming road closure that will have an affect on traffic in Alcoa over the next six months.

On Saturday, June 13, Hunt Road will be closed at the Alcoa Highway overpass. The existing Hunt Road bridge will be demolished and replaced by a new Hunt Road bridge over Alcoa Highway. This roadway is expected to re-open to traffic in December 2020. Signage is in place alerting motorists of the upcoming closure.

The existing bridge will be demolished during nighttime operations from June 14-18. Traffic will be detoured around the bridge demolition using existing interchange ramps. That detour will only be in place for the demolition activities, which will allow the contractor to safely and efficiently remove the existing structure. A detour map detailing the new traffic pattern following those demolition activities is attached.
