AVCP-RHA Board Chairman Wayne Morgan and Commissioner Timothy Kaganak traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to attend the 2026 National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) Annual Housing Summit.

The summit brought together more than 600 Tribal housing leaders, Tribes, TDHE’s, and federal partners from across the country to discuss the future of Tribal housing, share best practices, and collaborate on innovative housing solutions.

It was a pleasure to hear once again from HUD Secretary Scott Turner, who visited Bethel in 2025 and has continued to emphasize the importance of strengthening partnerships with Tribal communities.

Congratulations to Cook Inlet Housing Authority on receiving a national award recognizing its outstanding contributions to Tribal housing. It was great to see Alaska represented on the national stage.

Thank you to the National American Indian Housing Council for hosting another successful summit and for bringing together Tribal housing leaders from across the country to advance housing opportunities for Native communities.

Over the weekend, AVCP-RHA Board Chairman Wayne Morgan presented Senator Lyman Hoffman with a handcrafted gift created by John Oscar in recognition of Senator Hoffman's remarkable 40 years of service representing the people of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta in the Alaska State Legislature.

Throughout his four decades of public service, Senator Hoffman has been a steadfast advocate for the people of Western Alaska, championing initiatives that have strengthened communities across the region. His leadership was instrumental in advancing programs such as Power Cost Equalization (PCE), which has helped make electricity more affordable for rural Alaskans, as well as the Weatherization Program, which has enabled AVCP-RHA to improve the energy efficiency, safety, and heating of homes throughout the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

On behalf of the AVCP Regional Housing Authority, we extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Hoffman for his decades of dedicated public service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the people he has represented. We wish Senator Hoffman a well-earned and happy retirement and thank him for the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Yesterday, AVCP Regional Housing Authority (AVCP-RHA) President and CEO Jack Crow met with Ronnie Kurtz, Assistant Secretary for HUD's Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD), during his visit to Alaska.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the unique challenges of building and maintaining housing in one of the nation's most remote regions, including transportation, infrastructure, disaster recovery, and the ongoing need for safe and affordable housing. The delegation also visited local housing developments to better understand the realities of construction in rural Alaska.

"I am pleased that HUD and other housing-related agencies traveled to Bethel and villages in the Y-K Delta to see the unique challenges we face firsthand," said Jack Crow, AVCP-RHA President and CEO. "Nothing can replace coming here and seeing it for yourself. HUD is a strong partner as we continue working to reduce overcrowding and build safe, affordable homes for families throughout our region."

AVCP-RHA appreciates Assistant Secretary Kurtz's visit and looks forward to continuing its partnership with HUD to strengthen housing opportunities and support resilient communities across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

It is with great sadness that AVCP Regional Housing Authority extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Robert Nick.

Robert was a respected leader, elder, and one of the most influential voices in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. He was pivotal during the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act era and dedicated his life to serving the people of the region.

For more than two decades, Robert served as a Commissioner on the AVCP-RHA Board of Commissioners. Alongside his friend and fellow Commissioner, Moses White of Kasigluk, he was one of the longest-serving board members in the history of our organization. Together, they helped guide AVCP-RHA through decades of growth while advocating for affordable housing opportunities throughout the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.

Today, we honor Robert's legacy and the tremendous impact he made on our communities. We take comfort in knowing that he has now joined his longtime friend and fellow Commissioner, Moses White. Together, they leave behind a legacy of service, leadership, and dedication that will continue to inspire future generations.

In honor of Robert's service and friendship, members of the current AVCP-RHA Board of Commissioners will be traveling to Nunapitchuk to attend his funeral and pay their respects.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Robert's family, friends, and the community of Nunapitchuk during this difficult time.
