The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a heat-health alert for the North East. The alert is currently in place from Monday 22 June to Wednesday 24 June.

Before hot weather arrives, it is a good time to think about what you can do to protect yourself, family and friends from heat and potentially higher UV levels.

For some people, especially babies, older people and those with underlying health conditions, the summer heat can bring real health risks. Please keep an eye on people who may be at risk during hot weather.

Visit https://www.durham.gov.uk/stayingcool for advice on how to keep cool during hot weather.

Ambitious plans to double the value of the North East’s visitor economy have taken a step forward with the launch of a new destination marketing agency.

Experience North East England (ENEE) is the new destination marketing agency for our region, which will promote the North East as a sustainable, world-class destination to visit, meet and invest in.
It will work with us and the region’s other councils, including with Visit County Durham, our tourism service and the destination management organisation for County Durham.

The North East Mayoral Strategic Authority is providing £7m funding for ENEE.

Our Chief Executive John Hewitt said: “We’re really pleased to be building on years of regional partnership working to promote everything the North East has to offer to visitors from home and abroad, with the launch of this new destination marketing agency.
“Our county has some truly world-class tourist destinations, including Durham’s World Heritage Site Castle and Cathedral, beautiful countryside and stunning coastline, which together generate more than 21 million visitors a year. We also have the infrastructure in place to allow people to enjoy the significant number of varied and brilliant attractions in our county, as part of a wider trip to the North East. In doing so, they are ensuring the economic benefits, including jobs, are felt across our communities.
“We look forward to working as part of Experience North East England to continue championing our region on a national and international stage.”
