We ❤️ our volunteers! Last week was a big milestone for FARA as we completed our warehouse move - a huge task that couldn't have happened without some amazing help from Barclays UK volunteers.
A massive thank you to Aaron, Michelle, Trevor, Tyson and Ravi, who spent the day moving crates of stock (mostly very heavy books! 📚 ) and kept spirits high throughout. Your positivity, teamwork and humour made such a difference - you truly helped lighten the load!
From projects like this to helping in our charity shops, volunteers make it possible for FARA to dedicate more time supporting children, young people and communities in Romania 🇷🇴
Want to get involved? We would love to hear from you!

Our Story
FARA Charity transforms the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people in Romania
FARA Charity cares for Romania’s poorest families, helping to heal abuse and trauma amongst marginalised and discriminated children and adults. Giving security and love to those who need it most; fulfilling lives, rebuilding futures, spreading hope.
FARA Charity was founded to create a family for those without, fara meaning “without” in Romanian. The charity is one of the longest serving NGOs in Romania, with an office in the UK and shops throughout London the core of the work is carried out by a thriving team in Romania.
Heart-rending images on UK television in the 1980s, following the fall of Ceausescu, reported the terrible plight of children in Romania’s State orphanages causing Jane Nicholson to organise a group of volunteers transporting emergency aid from the UK.
Romania had been suffering for 40 years under a severe communist regime. The people had their rights and freedom taken away and the country was reduced to a place of abject poverty, suffering and fear. Life under this regime had repercussions which still effect this beautiful country as it rebuilds itself today.
Jane offered her nursing skills in three notorious institutions and witnessed first-hand the appalling conditions endured by severely traumatised and abandoned children and adults. She decided to devote her life to finding an alternative to institutional care and offering recovery and hope for the future.
In 1997 the first Family Home was opened, today FARA Charity cares for more than 500 children and young people across 14 different programmes. The charity continues to meet the on-going need in Romania.
