The Association of Non-Governmental Organisation (TANGO) Home of NGOs in The Gambia

The Association of Non-Governmental Organizations in the Gambia (TANGO) was founded in 1983 and since then it has been the premier NGO coalition in the country. TANGO was established to serve as a platform for better coordination, information sharing as well as serve as the voice of NGOs in the Gambia. It seeks to influence public policy, build the capacity of its members, government institutions and its agents as well as communities in order to enhance national development. Since its inception TANGO has been growing in number and value, and today boasts of 73 international, national and smaller community based organizations practically involved in the development process of the Gambia in all sectors and regions of the country. The founders of TANGO were also interested in ensuring maximum use of resources mobilized by NGOs for relief and social development purposes through collaboration, networking, and mutual reinforcement of each other's activities.

Our Mandate

TANGO is a non-state and not-for--profit, civil society organization. The Association's primary obligation is to promote and enhance NGO capacity and operations to be able to effectively deliver development goods and services for Gambian communities. TANGO seeks to also build the capacity of state institutions and officials in order to further enhance national development processes through effective and results-based monitoring and evaluation and rights-based approaches. TANGO considers development as a fundamental human right of citizens that the State has the primary duty to fulfill. In this regard, TANGO seeks to promote gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment, evidenced based advocacy and promotion of sustainable development.
