📌 As the European Commission is reallocating funding towards best reform performers, we reiterate our call to the 🇦🇱 Albanian and EC authorities to channel these additional resources into new measures that strengthen:

🔹parliamentary oversight and democratic institutions work on Accession and Reforms;
🔹civil society engagement in reform consultation and monitoring; and
🔹improve business readiness for participation in the EU .

The EU will redirect Western Balkans reform funding towards frontrunners Montenegro, Albania and North Macedonia, as other countries are struggling to keep up with reform deadlines.

📌 The inclusion of the in the 🇪🇺 EU’s TEN-T Core Network in 2024 marked a significant milestone - but a place on the network map does not translate automatically into operational readiness.

Across the South Adriatic corridor, persistent structural gaps in rail interoperability, electrification, and cross-border functionality continue to limit the region’s effective integration into European transport systems. 🛤️

(Connected for Cohesion) is an Interreg-funded initiative bringing together partners from Albania, Montenegro, and Italy to close these gaps: assessing institutional readiness, building a data-driven platform, and shaping a joint roadmap for long-term regional vision beyond 2027. ⏭️

📌 Earlier this month, our Executive Director contributed to the 3rd EU–Albania Joint Consultative Committee panel discussion “Cluster 2: Internal market, with a focus on Albania´s preparations to join EU Single Market”. As discussions on deepening gradual integration become prominent in the Enlargement agenda, the meeting pointed out that the EU is a cornerstone of European integration and that sustained progress in this area is essential for Albania’s accession preparations.

The meeting gathered civil society organisations and social partners from and the to review the state of play of the accession process. Discussions reflected a principle the EESC - European Economic and Social Committee set out in its recent Opinion on civil society's role in the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine Growth Plans: as performance-based financing becomes a permanent fixture of enlargement policy, civil society oversight needs to be built as a governance requirement.
