Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.

General information
MEMBERSHIP AND ELIGIBILITY All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World 1, World War 11, Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Section 1, of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion. The following eligibility periods have been established for membership in The American Legion: Aug. 2, 1990 thru (still open) Dec. 20, 1989 thru Jan. 21, 1990 Aug. 24, 1982 thru July 31, 1984 Feb. 28, 1961 thru May 7, 1975 June 25, 1950 thru Jan. 31, 1955 Dec. 7,1941 thru Dec. 31, 1946 April 6, 1917 thru Nov. 11, 1918 If an individual meets the eligibility requirements for both organizations, it is possible to belong to both, The American Legion and the Sons of The American Legion. Individuals who belong to both are known as dual members. There shall be no forms or class of membership except an active membership.
