PAN'S 'MEN IN SHEDS' GROUP

Pan Together has hosted the Newport 'Men in Sheds' group for the last few months now, after they lost their garden location when Age UK Isle of Wight moved offices. They now have their own shed in the Community Centre's garden and are renamed the 'Pan Old Boys' - though you don't have to be 'old' to join. :-) :-)

'Pan Old Boys' provide a space to meet with others and the opportunity for men of all ages to use their skills in a positive way. The UK has them all over the country, with several located on the Island.

The group's new shed and our garden is the ideal place to keep those gardening skills working. You may even want to learn about gardening and vegetable growing in our garden as well as woodworking. Or perhaps teaching others.

Men can do as much or as little work as you want to. The most important thing is that you are here, being part of the shed group and enjoying each other's company.

The Pan Old Boys Shed is open for new members every Wednesday 9.30-2.30. For more information call Pan Together on 01983 248170

THE BIG CONVERSATION...

The Isle of Wight Council is seeking the views of Islanders on what does and what would help them be happy and healthy. They have commissioned with an independent organisation called 'Help & Care' to do this Big Conversation over the coming months.

A date for your diary - The Big Conversation will be at Downside Community Centre on Wednesday 25 June from 10am-2pm. They would like to talk informally with cafe users, visitors to our Wednesday drop-in sessions and other centre users that day.

PAN TOGETHER'S COMMUNITY LARDER

For anyone that does not know and as a reminder, we have operated a community larder at Downside Community Centre on Furrlongs - next door to Barton Primary School - since November 2022.

It is open Tuesday and Fridays, 12 noon until 2pm and you will be welcomed by the ever friendly Kim and the team.

Residents from East Newport (Pan, Barton, Pan Meadows and Fairlee) are able to visit once a week and in return for a £5 contribution -and joining Pan Together on your first visit, which is free - you will be able to fill two shopping bags with food. If you choose wisely you will get about £25-£30 worth of shopping on each visit.

With the funding of other community pantries (and our larder) under attack from County Hall recently, we want to reassure everyone that our larder is sustainable due to it's geographical restrictions and thanks to the generosity of so many people and organisations.

No one should face going hungry. No one should have to choose between food, fuel and children's clothes. The Pan Community Larder will provide direct and vital support to local families and households in these difficult times, when the cost of living crisis is still biting so hard for so many.
