When you’re caring for someone you love, asking for help can be difficult.

As Yvette Nicole Brown shares, start with one specific request. Ask someone to bring dinner, spend time with your loved one, or give you a few hours to rest. Then give the people who care about you the opportunity to show up.

New to caregiving? You do not have to figure it all out alone.

Romy Raves and Leslie Fuller share why caregivers should bring family and friends into the conversation, ask for help, and keep learning as their loved one’s needs change. There is no shame in asking for support.

When seniors consider how senior living might fit into their lives, they are also thinking about what they want community life to provide.

Our latest report, The Next Generation of Senior Living, explores those questions through a survey of nearly 1,400 U.S. adults ages 60 to 90. It looks at the practical support respondents associate with senior living, the concerns and information that shape trust, what helps a community feel welcoming and connected, which routines and relationships they want to continue, and the technologies they want to learn more about.

Together, the findings offer a broader view of what seniors may consider as they think about senior living, from care and safety to independence, privacy, belonging, and meaningful control over daily life.

Planning for future care does not require having every answer. It can begin with one question: What kind of support would you want if your needs changed?

Starting early gives families more time to understand a senior loved one’s preferences, explore options and costs, and decide who should be involved in future decisions.

This National Long-Term Care Planning Month, make time to begin the conversation before care becomes urgent.

In memory care, meaningful activities aren't one-size-fits-all.
Drawing on her experience as an activity director in a memory care community, Nikki shares why understanding a resident's interests, routines, and preferences is so important. What feels engaging to one person may not resonate with another.

That's also where families can play an important role. The details they share about who their loved one is and what they enjoy can help communities create experiences that feel more personal and familiar.

Recent comments from Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, and Dolly Parton touch on different aspects of caring for the people we love, from patience and presence to remembering to care for ourselves along the way.

Every caregiving experience is different, but each is a reminder that support should make room for both the person receiving care and the person providing it.
